Joshua S. Thompson

Joshua S. Thompson, age 17, beloved son of Tammy J. Paulson, is mourned for his senseless passing which occurred on Monday, February 16, 2009. Born in Utica on June 5, 1991, Joshua is the son of Michael Tilly and Tammy J. Paulson. He was raised and educated locally and was planning to study electrical engineering this fall at Mohawk Valley Community College. Joshua was close to his mother, always watching over her. They nurtured a unique friendship, and he often doted over her and confided in her. Although a young man, he was tall in stature, with memorable blue eyes, he was mature and independent. He was child-like at heart, yet approaching the cusp of manhood. He was affectionate, respectful, and adventuresome. His friendships were plentiful and meaningful. He embraced his friends with much loyalty, some from childhood and many of current relationships. It was obvious that many sought him out just to hang, listen to rap, play Xbox, and just be together. He also enjoyed playing computer games and socializing on MySpace. Basketball was his favorite sport, but above all, music fulfilled his soul; he knew every lyric and related to the rhythm of the artist. As a grandson and nephew, he always brought laughter and joy to his loved ones. He had an innate way of charming people and he had a special place in his life for his “little brother”. Overall, Joshua was blessed with a wonderful heart and he will not be forgotten. Joshua is survived by his mother, Tammy J. Paulson of Utica; his father, Michael Tilly of Brooklyn; his maternal grandmother, Carrie Paulson of Utica; and his brother, Jayden Paulson-Holmes. Survivors also include his aunts and uncles, Judith L. and Ernest Brown, Chief Master Sergeant U.S. Air Force of Georgia, Les Paulson, Russell Paulson, Shari Lynn Paulson and Richard “Dick” Ballard, and James Zimmerman; his special great-aunt, Paula Worden; and many cousins, especially Michael and Alan, whom he loved like brothers. Joshua was blessed with “his Princess”, Tori, who held a special place in his heart; his close friends, Patrick and Jamie, and a host of others. He was predeceased by his aunt, Jo-Anne Zimmerman. The family wishes to thank the individuals who assisted Joshua by being by his side until the medical attendants arrived. These courageous efforts were very much appreciated. Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:00-3:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St. corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions in Joshua’s honor to the family enabling them to cover needed expenses during this difficult time; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Joshua’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation facilitated by S. Betty Giarrusso, CSJ.
