Joseph R. Lupa

Mr. Joseph R. Lupa, age 72, of Westmoreland, passed away at the Masonic Care Community of NY on June 17, 2007. Born in Utica on February 24, 1935, Joseph was raised and educated locally. He attended Utica Free Academy and then trade school, completing a carpentry program. On February 11, 1967 he married the former Sandra Zegarelli who passed away on October 3, 1999. They were true companions and best friends throughout their 32 years of marriage. They were devoted parents, grandparents, and perfect partners in life. Since 1953 Joseph held the position of manager of the frozen food and dairy departments at Chanatry’s Supermarkets on Culver Ave. and French Road, retiring in 1997 at the age of 62. An admired individual, he was well-loved by everyone who knew him. Endowed with a humorous nature and a good will, Joseph was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. He enjoyed working around his yard, and traveling with his wife. He was an avid New York Mets baseball fan and a supporter of the Buffalo Bills football team. He was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers union, the Eagle’s Club, and the Moose Lodge. He was a communicant of the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills. Joseph is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Victrina Lupa of Westmoreland, and Jeremy Lupa of Winter Park, Florida; and his grandchildren, Amanda L. Gosling, Adrianna N. Lupa, Joseph Richard Lupa, II, Angeline C. Lupa, and Zachary C. Lupa. His family includes his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Domenica “Nikki” and Elliott Stewart of Utica, Cynthia Conigliaro of Galway, NY, Patricia Zegarelli of Utica, and Doris Randall of Whitesboro. He also leaves many friends, including Terry Taylor and Tracy and Daniel Voce and children, who were like family; and Theresa and Charles Perrotta and children. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Lupa; his step-brother, Stanley E. Randall; mother-in-law, Bernice (Lehser) Zegarelli; his father-in-law, Jerry Zegarelli; and his step-mother-in-law, Genevieve Zegarelli. The family expresses appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center and the Troy Unit of the Masonic Care Community of NY. Visitation will be held Wednesday (today) from 4:00 – 7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Joseph’s funeral service will commence on Thursday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at the Church of the Annunciation, 25 South St., Clark Mills, NY where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
