Joseph J. Visingardi, Sr.

Mr. Joseph J. Visingardi, Sr., age 74, of Utica, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2007 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on May 6, 1933, Joseph was the son of the late James and Florence (Dalia) Visingardi. Raised and educated locally, he attended T. R. Proctor High School. On July 21, 1956 he married the former Lucille Passaire. The couple enjoyed each other’s company and celebrated their love throughout their 51 years together. Joe held positions as a driver and a millwright with the General Electric Company at the Broad St. and French Rd. locations, retiring in 1988. A man who loved and sacrificed for his family, Joe felt that spending special and valuable time with his grandchildren was so rewarding and gratifying, and he looked forward to holiday get-togethers with his loved ones. Blessed with a quick wit, yet compassionate and sensitive nature, his great strength of character guided his life and the decisions he made. He was proud of his heritage and valued his many cultural beliefs. He was a patron of the East Side Senior Center, and highly regarded the friendships he formed there. During his leisure time, he enjoyed games of chance and trips to Atlantic City and the local casino. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Joe is survived by his wife, Lucille; his daughter, Julieann Sylvester of Utica; his sons and daughter-in-law, Vincent and Celine Visingardi of New Hartford, and Joseph J. “Joey” Visingardi of Utica; and his adored grandchildren, Ashley Rose Sylvester, James Sylvester III, Janae Marie Sylvester, Marissa Celine Visingardi, and Joseph V. Visingardi. Also surviving are his cousins; and his aunts and uncles. Joe was also blessed with many wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his in-laws, Julius and Elvera Passaire, and Elvera’s husband, Tommaso DiTrinca. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Samir Desai, Dr. Kevin McCormick, and the staff of the Allan Calder Wing of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Medical Center 2 West. The compassionate care and sincere nature of all who cared for Joe and his family were outstanding and so meaningful. Visitation will be held Sunday (today) from 1:00-3:00 and 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Joseph’s funeral service will commence on Monday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
