Josephine L. (Fiore) Yacco

Mrs. Josephine L. (Fiore) Yacco, age 79, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at the St. Joseph Nursing Home where she had most recently resided. Born in Nutley, NJ on September 20, 1926, Josephine was the daughter of the late Robert and Maria (Saveria) Tobasso Fiore. Raised and educated locally, she attended St. Mary of Mt. Carmel School and graduated from T.R. Proctor High School in 1945. On November 4, 1949, she married Raymond Yacco with whom she has shared a 56-year union filled with love and commitment. As a dedicated homemaker, Josephine was deeply devoted to her husband, to her children, and, most recently, to her grandchildren. Characterized by a humble and unselfish outlook, she always placed the needs of her loved ones before her own. Josephine’s greatest pleasure was enjoying the company of her family and preparing meals for them. Throughout her younger years she was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel parish. She was currently a loyal communicant of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament. Mrs. Yacco is survived by her husband, Raymond; two daughters and a son-in-law, Joanne and Joseph Favat of Herkimer, and Maria Rosado of Utica; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Lise of Lafayette NY; and her grandchildren, Carolyn and James Delles of Yorkville, and Stephanie Yacco of Lafayette NY. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Christina and Lewis Gardener of Whitesboro; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; and her in-laws, Ann Fiore of CA, Antoinette Fiore of New Hartford, Mary A. Diana of Utica, Antoinette Yacco of Mohpac NY, and Armando and Beatrice Yacco of Utica. She also leaves a number of good friends, including Minnie LaPaglia and Marybeth Scalise. She was predeceased by an infant son who passed away at birth in 1950; her brothers, Nicholas and Robert “Pat” Fiore; and her in-laws, Frank J. Jr. and Angeline “Angela” Yacco who was a special sister-in-law and dear friend to Josephine. The family extends its sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of the St. Joseph Nursing Home for their excellent care and compassionate dedication. There will be no public visitation. Please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Josephine’s Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Monday morning at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
