Josephine "Cale" Colon

Josephine “Cale” Colon, age 58, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in the comfort of her daughter Anira’s home, surrounded by her loving family. Josephine was born in Patillas, Puerto Rico on November 17, 1952, the daughter of Felicita “Juana” Gonzalez and the late Jose “Pepin” Colon. She was raised in Puerto Rico. At the age of 7 she relocated to Pennsylvania, and in 1972 moved to Utica. Cale was employed by Abelove’s Linen Supply, and for several years she worked as a seamstress at Lynch & Kelly, Inc. Cale was blessed with an uplifting, positive personality and her goal was to make people laugh and bring happiness to others. Her family always came first, and she maintained a balance in her life between home and at work, an example to her family of her loyalty in providing for them, and how much she loved them. She was creative, resourceful, and stylish in decorating her home. She found much pleasure in gardening and collecting figurines of dogs. She also held a great affection for animals and all God’s creations. She was a parishioner of Historic Old St. John’s Church. Cale is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Yanira Trevino and Michael Vazques, Anira and Jose Rodriguez, Yanisa and Ricardo Colon; her son, Jose “Davy” Rivera and Andrina Martinez; her 13 grandchildren; her mother, Felicita “Juana” Gonzalez; her sisters, Dora Goico, and Iris Santiago; her brothers and sisters-in-law, David Colon, Jose, Jr. and Ana Colon, and Kathleen “Kathy” Colon, all of Utica; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Jose “Pepin” Colon; and her brothers, Jose J. “Chi-qua” Colon, and William “Billy” Colon. Cale’s children offer a sincere thank-you to their aunt, Iris Santiago, for all the care and support she rendered during this difficult time. Visitation will be held Friday from 3:30-5:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Josephine’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 9:30 at Historic Old St. John’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Luis Olguin. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
