Joseph F. Christiano

Mr. Joseph F. Christiano, age 84, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on August 22, 1923, Joseph was the son of the late Philip and Christina (Carlone) Christiano. He was raised and educated locally. A proud veteran of World War II, Joseph served his country in the U. S. Army and participated in the Battle of Normandy while stationed in the Central European Theater of Operations. On September 6, 1947 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, he married the former Fannie Desiato with whom he shared a blessed union of 61 years. For many years Joe worked construction jobs for various local construction companies and later was employed by the General Electric Co. He subsequently retired from the Oneida County Highway Department. He was a proud family man and was patriotic in his beliefs of his country. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Joe is survived by his wife, Fannie; his daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Kenneth Dardano, and Marie “Mimi” and Nicholas Arcuri, all of Utica, and Phyllis and Phil Avella of New Hartford; his grandchildren, Joe, Anthony, Maria, Ken, Jr., and Chrissy Dardano; Nicholas Arcuri III; Kim and John Kleaka; Mike and Sherry Avella, Philly and Sharon Avella; Nicole Latini, and John Michael Latini; and his 10 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include his sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and William Simonik of Utica; his brothers, Arthur Christiano of Utica, and Louis Christiano of Syracuse; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, especially acknowledging his cousin Phil Capalupo who was like a brother and dear friend; and his sister-in-law, Marion Desiato. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret “Marge” and Dominick Greco; his brothers and sister-in-law, Angelo and Marie Christiano, and John Christiano; and his in-laws, Grace Christiano, Anna Christiano, and Angelo Desiato. The family is grateful to Dr. Charles Eldredge, and Dr. Christopher Max for all their care and attention. Visitation will be held Friday (today) from 4:00-8:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Joseph’s funeral service will commence on Saturday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Committal services will take place in Calvary Cemetery Chapel with military honors.
