Mr. Johnny Lee Reed

UTICA – Mr. Johnny Lee Reed went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 26, 2024, just two days shy of his 71st birthday. Born in Pike County, Alabama on September 28, 1953, Johnny was the son of the late John and Mary (MacKenzie) Reed. He graduated from Leesburgh High School in Florida. In 1975, he moved to Utica to join his family and has since made his life in the area. On August 2, 1985, Johnny wed the former Sadie Ann Walker. They shared in a loving and devoted union that spanned over 20 years prior to Sadie’s passing on December 13, 1995. A tractor trailer driver for many years, Johnny held employment with various local trucking corporations, including Bonide Products, LLC. He lastly accepted a position at George’s Farm, ultimately serving as a supervisor. In his spare time, Johnny loved fishing and spending time on his boat. He was mechanically savvy and enjoyed working on cars. Many good memories were made on his hunting excursions. Above all, Johnny cherished time spent with his family and telling stories of his youth. Some of his greatest times were had with his companions, Joe Watkins, and Willie Smith. He also treasured being in the company of his beloved grandchildren, Marcus Reed, Jr., Jeremiah Reed, Sr., Najaquan Reed, Shyvon Reed, Nehemiah Reed, and Zechariah Reed. One of his most famous sayings was, “I’m gonna hit the I-95!” Johnny is survived by his children, Jermaine “Duper” Reed, the cherished memory of Derrick “Fuddy” Reed, who passed away on October 1, 1996, Dynell “Buddy” Reed, Benji Reed, Marcus “Stuffy” – forever known to his father as “Plunger” and Vondine Reed, Willie “Pank” and Sian-Kierre “Pinky” Walker, the cherished memory of John “Curt” Spratt who passed away on July 24, 2013, Jarrod “Baba” Spratt, Anthony “Fluffy” and Caroline “Fruity” Spratt; his nephew, Jaden Reed, who he raised as his own son; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Barbara Reed, Larry Reed, Jerry Reed, David and Patricia Reed, James Burgess, and Jeffrey Burgess. He fondly remembered his siblings who preceded him, Janice Reed, Anne Lois Reed, Robert Reed, James Reed, and Kennyon Reed. He also leaves to cherish his memory many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; and in-laws, Dorothy “Ruthie” Spratt (the late John Spratt), Virginia “Polly” and Danny Watkins, and Harvey “Fuzzy” and Betty Ivey. He was additionally predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harvey and Ethel (Walker) Ivey; and his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Melissa and James L. “Jimmy” Walker, and Benjamin “Ben” Walker. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Reevae Davis-Gatling, an aide at the Wynn Hospital 5th Floor for her loving care. A special thanks as well to Valentine Spells at the Pines Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for her care and compassion. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 10:00 a.m-12:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Johnny’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
