Mr. John B. Loperfido

UTICA - Mr. John B. Loperfido, age 100, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at the Masonic Care Community of NY. Born in Utica on March 29, 1918, John was the son of the late Nicholas and Catherine (Turi) Loperfido. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of Utica College where he received an Associate degree. A proud veteran, John honorably served his country in the Army Air Corps as a member of the 336th Engineer Combat Battalion from 1942-1946 during World War II. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European Theater Occupation Medal, and the French Croix De Guerre Medal during his service. On November 27, 1948 he married the former Sarah Gattuso with whom he shared 58 years in a union blessed with love and mutual commitment. Sarah passed away on September 10, 2007. John was employed by the United States Postal Service from 1950-1980 retiring as a supervisor. John was a man who lived a simple life, yet he was generous in so many ways. A patriarch devoted to his family, he instilled the values of respect and morality to his three sons. A selfless man, in his retirement years he was always trying to help friends and family members if their physical limitations made it difficult for them to accomplish their everyday tasks. John was a lifetime, dedicated member and former Post Commander of the American Legion Post#229, and a member of the DAV Wheeler Stars & Stripes Chapter #82, and the VFW Post #8728. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. John is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony “Tony” and Christine Loperfido of Webster NY, John N. Loperfido of Lake Forest CA, and Philip and Colleen Loperfido of Harleysville, PA. He also leaves his grandson, Jason Loperfido. He held close to his heart the memory of his infant son Nicholas Anthony Loperfido, and cherished the memory of his grandson Daniel N. Loperfido who preceded him on March 20, 2016. He will also be remembered by his grandchildren, Eric and Amy Ewanow, Scott and Dayle Ewanow, and Karin Ewanow; his great-grandchildren, Kathryn, Thomas, Paige, and Rachel; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and special acknowledgement of his cousins. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Antoinette and Chester Cerminaro. The family extends sincere appreciation to John’s niece Mary Anne Schavone, his neighbors Bob and Eleanor Leone, and Mary Lourdes Cirasuolo for their heartfelt comfort and support. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00-11:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. John’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday at 11:00 from the funeral home and at 12:00 noon at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski with Military Honors conferred. Entombment will take place in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
