John N. Carbone Jr.

Mr. John N. Carbone, Jr., age 82, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013 in the dignity and comfort of his home with the love and support of his wife by his side. Born in Utica on July 27, 1930, John was the son of the late John, Sr. and Theresa (Parma) Carbone. Raised and educated locally, he attended T.R. Proctor High School. A veteran of the United States Army, John served his country with pride during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Japan and honorably discharged as a corporal. On September 15, 1951 he married his childhood sweetheart, the former Marie D. DeBernardis, and together they shared 61 years devoting their lives to each other. John was employed at the Griffiss Air Force Base Electronic Department, retiring in 1984 after many years of steadfast service. John was an honest, humble, and God-loving family man. Although his family came first, he did his best to meet the needs of his church, the Knights of St. John, and any friends in need. He pursued due diligence and precision in all his endeavors, from participating in the game of golf in many leagues to celebrating many traditions, from Sunday dinners to holiday gatherings. He was also a Mr. Fix-It, especially in the area of woodworking. He was a charter member of the Knights of St. John Commandery #385/exalted and noble Degree of the Holy Cross and a member of the Fort Schuyler Post #1290. John was a member of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where he served funeral Masses for many years with a respectful presence. John is survived by his wife, affectionately known to him as “Mer”; his children and their loves, Delores and David Wojcik, Anthony and Christine (Charles) Carbone, Thomas Carbone, Michael and Michele (Travis) Carbone, John and Jackie (Maunz) Carbone, Paul Carbone, and Christine Carbone and fiancé Joseph LaPaglia; his grandchildren, David Jr. and Denise Wojcik, Cathy and Bob Scofield, Karen and El Phillips; Valerie and Marcus Worden, Vanessa and Mike Tubia, Nicole Carbone, Toni Carbone; Thomas Carbone Jr., Matthew Carbone and fiancée Jessica; Michael Carbone, Michaela Carbone; Danielle Carbone, and Bianca Carbone; and the memory of his infant granddaughter, Camille Carbone, who preceded him in death; and his 11 great-grandchildren. Also left to honor his legacy are his sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Frank Aceto; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews too numerous to mention, cousins, and in-laws Lucy LeoGrande, Carmella Perkins, Elvira Williams, Rita Davis, and Serafino “Sam” and Rosemary DeBernardis. John was also loved by many people who never forgot about him. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Millie and Anthony DeBernardis, and many members of the DeBernardis family who he loved as his own brothers and sisters. The family is grateful to the personnel of Kunkel Ambulance and the Schuyler Volunteer Fire Department EMT’s, as well as the nurses and staff of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center Emergency Department for their exemplary kindness and care. Gratitude is also extended to the nurses and aides of Bassett Home Health Care for their help and concern. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The members of the Knights of St. John's Commandery #385 will assemble at the funeral home at 6:30 for a Prayer Service. John’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski and con-celebrant Deacon Bill Dischiavo. Entombment will take place in the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum at Crown Hill Memorial Park Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
