Mrs. Johanna C. (Bonacci) Albrecht

Mrs. Johanna C. (Bonacci) Albrecht, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on December 11, 1938, Johanna was the daughter of the late Thomas N. and Jennie (Treta) Bonacci. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Albany, and continued her post-graduate work attaining three Masters Degrees in Theology, Labor Relations, and Education. In October of 1961 she wed Henry C. Albrecht, Sr.; they were the center of each other’s life during their 53 year union, and their marriage was sacred to them. Johanna dedicated her professional life to teaching generations of students in the Utica City School District until her retirement. She held New York State Certifications in Social Studies and English and taught for a number of years in each department. Though Johanna was serious-minded and soft-spoken, she was sensitive to her students’ academic and social needs. She was also an advocate for her colleagues who could always depend upon her for advice and union representation. Johanna was very active in cultural and civic involvement in her community. She was a member of the Utica Maennerchor, the League of Women Voters, the Marcy Democratic Club, and the Utica Jaycees. She was a parishioner of St. Peter’s Church. Johanna enjoyed hiking and fishing as long as Henry was there to hook the worm. After retirement they were able to travel to all the places on her list. But heaven help the driver that makes the wrong turn Johanna is survived by her husband, Henry, Sr.; her daughters and son-in-law, Maria and Brian Comfort of Remsen, and Bonnie Angelini of Utica; her sons and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Lisa Albrecht of Poland, NY, and Henry C. “Hank” Albrecht, Jr. of Latham; her grandchildren, Katherine Alice Welch, Augustus Ronald Comfort; Harrison Angelini; Joseph, and Allison Herkel, and Nicole Albrecht; her great-granddaughter, Julia; and her sister, Eleanor Bertin of Deerfield. Her extended family includes her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, with special mention of Charlie McDermott; and in-laws, Francis “Uncle Danny” and Susan Albrecht, and Lois and Bob Dratch. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Anthony Bertin; and her friend, Catherine Bintz. Visitation will be held Friday from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of the Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, please consider a memorial donation in Johanna’s honor to the Utica Public Library to recuperate mom’s overdue book balance; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Johanna’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday morning at 9:00 at St. Peter’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. David Orzel. Interment will take place graveside in Calvary Cemetery.
