Joanne C. (Aldine) Matteson

Joanne C. (Aldine) Matteson, age 71, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in the comfort and dignity of her home with her loving family by her side. Joanne was born in Utica on August 16, 1940, the daughter of the late John J. and Christine Mae (Polak) Aldine. She was raised in the Mary Street neighborhood and attended St. Agnes School and T.R. Proctor High School. At one time she was married to Richard Matteson and their union was blessed with their children. Joanne was endowed with a fine work ethic and over the years was employed at various retail stores. Her favorite positions were the ones she held at Doeskin, and Buck Busters, formerly Vyners Drugs on Oneida Square. At home, as a mother, she was reliable and responsible. She was complimented on her listening skills, and had a sweet personality and a great sense of humor. She also had a talent for telling stories very vividly. Joanne was a caring, modest, and humble woman, and her family knew that she truly had a heart of gold. She kept an immaculate home and was talented enough to cook a variety of food fare. Her family will remember her delicious macaroni, homemade pies, and rich, dark chocolate as the final treat. During her younger years, Joanne enjoyed square dancing, and more recently she kept her mind active by using the computer and playing Pogo games. She had attended St. Agnes Church. Joanne is survived by her children, Dawn M. Suhadolnik of FL, Brian S. Matteson and his fiancee Michele P. Greer of Utica, and Edith “DeeDee” L. and Gabe Pacciarelli of Ilion. She was predeceased by her daughter, Carol Ann Matteson; her son, John Eric Matteson, and her infant son, Ricky. In addition, she leaves her grandchildren, Jimmy, Lisa Jennifer, Amanda; Kyle, and Michael; Anthony, Nicholas, Donnie, Christopher, Daniel; Jonathan, Jessica and Jahnine; 4 great-grandchildren; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia A. and Thomas Maggi of Utica, Barbara L. Gaylord of New Hartford, and Roberta J. and Herbert Amberg of Utica; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, and many friendships from childhood to the present day which she cherished, especially her “B.F.F.” Danielle Evans. A Memorial Gathering in honor of Joanne will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 11:30-1:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Joanne’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of her Memorial Gathering with Sister Elizabeth Giarrusso, CSJ officiating.
