Mrs. Jessie P. (Candella) Cicchelli

Mrs. Jessie P. (Candella) Cicchelli, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at the St. Luke’s Home with the love and support of her family. Jessie was born in Frankfort, NY on April 13, 1924, the daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Spoon) Candella. She was raised and educated in Marcy where she received her elementary education. She began her secondary education at Utica Free Academy and completed her high school years in Whitesboro. On October 18, 1949 she married Joseph “Ginger” Cicchelli, Sr. with whom she shared 38 years until his passing on October 21, 1987; Jessie & Ginger were very committed to each other in their marriage. Jessie began the working days of her life at Loblaws Supermarket where she held the position of Head Cashier for 11 years. She then accepted a job at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company where she was a valued employee for 27 years. Jessie was a good woman who raised her children well and earned their respect. She also loved being a grandmother and visiting her beloved grandchildren. She also found time for cooking, traveling with her husband (to Hawaii and Italy, among other places), and working outside in her garden. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and she practiced her Catholic faith at St. Peter’s Church. Jessie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Larry Giglio of Chesterfield, MO. She held close to her heart the memory of her daughter, Estelle Ruggiero, who passed away on June 9, 2003. She also leaves her daughter-in-law, Selma Joseph Sewall. Always close to her heart was the memory of her son, Joseph “Joey” Cicchelli, Jr., who passed away on May 17, 1981. She is also survived by her grandchildren, David Cicchelli of Baltimore, Jason Cicchelli of Utica; Daniella Giglio, and Nicole and Daniel Stickane, all of Dallas, Larry Giglio, Jr., and Russell J. Giglio of St. Louis, Eleni Marketos, and Joey Ruggiero both of Utica; her sister, Rose A. Vanno; her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Florence Candella; and her son-in-law Louis J. Ruggiero, Sr., her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins including the Spoons, Candellas, Isabelle and Tony Hathaway and family, and the LaMonto family; her sister-in-law, Grace Candella; and her friends from Met Life and the St. Lukes Home. She was predeceased by her brother, Fred Candella; her brother-in-law, Salvatore A. Vanno; and her friends, Franny DeCuffa and Rose Femia. The family extends sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at the St. Luke’s Home for providing Jessie with compassionate care. They would also like to thank all the dear friends and family that have supported Jessie while she was living in the nursing home. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3-5 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to the Right Start Program of the Archdiocese of St. Louis Respect Life Apostolate or the Graybar Family Foundation in lieu of floral offerings; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Jessie’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday morning at 9 from the funeral home and at 10 at St. Peter’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Anthony P. LaFache. Committal prayers and entombment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum.
