Jean Marie (Ruane) Franchini

Mrs. Jean Marie (Ruane) Franchini, age 73, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the Heritage Health Care Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on April 14, 1934, Jean was the daughter of the late John F. and Marie (Belding) Ruane. She received her elementary education in Utica, and was a graduate of Rome Free Academy. She furthered her education at Utica College of Syracuse University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Medical Science. Her specialization yielded her a position as operator of an Oneida County medical laboratory located on Hopper St. On November 16, 1957 she married Dr. Fausto Aldo Franchini, who passed away on June 21, 1988. Jean also assisted her husband in his private practice prior to raising their children. A scholarly and accomplished woman, Jean engaged her mind by researching, reading, and participating in Jeopardy. She had a great ability to retain and share her knowledge. Always supportive and active, she was involved with the hobbies and leisure pursuits of her daughters, of whom she was so proud. Also, many would remember Jean for her involvement with her brothers’ restaurant, Table d’Hote in Rome. Social and community-minded, she held close affiliations with the Gamma Chi Woman’s Group; she was the founder of two Pony Clubs: the Red Fox, and the Clinton Country, and facilitated many charity horse shows. She assisted in the original Epicurean Delight fundraiser now sponsored annually by Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. She was the founder of the Mohawk Valley Bonsai Club and served in the office of president. Jean is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Diana “Di” Franchini and her husband David Eldridge of NJ, Lisa and Chuck Cooper of Lancaster, CA, and Laura and Jack Buschmann of Deansboro, NY; and her cherished grandchildren, Kenny and Nicole Cooper; Margaret, Katie, John, and Allie Buschmann. Also surviving are her sisters and brother-in-law, Roberta DelMonte of Whitesboro, and Rita and Peter Rielley of Rome; her brothers and sister-in-law, Peter Ruane of CA, William and Carmella Ruane of Rome, and Thomas Ruane of Beach Point, Cape Cod; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Marco Franchini, and Viola Franck, both of Carthage, NY. She also leaves her dear friends Pauline Mauth, and Tom Martin, both from the Bonsai Club; and Barb Remmel, Marilyn and Don Schaaf, Paul, and all her friends at the Wildwood Gardens bonsai gallery in Ohio. Jean had a love for cats and currently enjoyed the companionship of Calypso, but always close to her heart and dearly missed was Ramses, who won her heart. She was predeceased by her brother, John Ruane; and her in-laws, Jack DelMonte, Angelo Franck, and Benny Franchini. The family offers sincere thanks to all the physicians and caregivers who shared professional concern and care with Jean and her family. Also a special thank you to the attending staff of the Heritage Health Care Center who intimately cared for Jean during her last few days. Visitation will be held Friday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Jean’s honor to the Regional Cancer Center, the St. Elizabeth Medical Center Emergency Room Fund, or the Mohawk Valley Bonsai Club; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Jean’s funeral service will commence on Saturday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Inurnment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum at the convenience of the family
