Jason Scott "Jay" LaPlante

Mr. Jason Scott “Jay” LaPlante, age 38, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 19, 2007, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born in San Antonio, Texas on June 12, 1969, Jay was the son of Beatrice (Pastorella) and the late Gerald J. “Jerry” LaPlante. Raised and educated in Frankfort, he was a graduate with the class of 1988. He pursued his collegiate studies at SUNY Institute of Technology, graduating in December of 2006. Jay was the Assistant Residential Director of the ARC of Oneida-Lewis Counties for 16 years. Endowed with a unique personality, he was a practical jokester whose life revolved around his loved ones. As an excellent gourmet cook and skilled baker, he enjoyed entertaining both family and friends. He took pleasure in traveling, he especially loved his trips to Cape Cod, the time he spent in the Adirondacks, and shopping in New York City. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Jay is survived by his mother, Beatrice LaPlante of Utica; his sister, Michelle LaPlante of Utica; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald J. Jr. and Marie LaPlante, of Texas, Kevin and Jean LaPlante of Oriskany, David and Karen LaPlante of New Hampshire, Darren LaPlante of Utica, and Chad and Lisa LaPlante of Frankfort; his partner, Sam Patterson of Utica; his nieces and nephews, Matthew LaPlante, Kaitlyn LaPlante, Kristen and Mike Decker, Danielle, Melissa, Denise, Heather, and Nicole LaPlante; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by his many dear and cherished friends too numerous to mention, especially acknowledging Kelly & Chris Kirkland and Dave Trunfio. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Nicholas and Beatrice Pastorella; his paternal grandparents, Gerald and June LaPlante, and his nephew, Michael LaPlante. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of the ER of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their care and concern. Visitation will be held Wednesday (today) from 4:00-8:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions in Jay’s honor to a charity of choice; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Jay’s funeral service will commence on Thursday morning at 8:30 from the funeral home and at 9:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
