James M. "Jim" Talento, Sr.

Mr. James M. “Jim” Talento, Sr., age 81, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with the support of his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on July 17, 1928, James was the son of the late Michael and Pearl (Dager) Talento. He was raised and educated locally. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the United States Navy. On November 23, 1946 he married the former Marie C. Gentile with whom he shared a union of 63 years. Together, they enjoyed a loving relationship blessed with many wonderful memories. At one time, Jim held a position as foreman with the Steinhorst Company, and for the majority of his working career he was involved in his family concern, Park View Body Shop which he operated with his son, Jim, up until his passing. A mild-mannered patriarch, he was devoted and dedicated to providing for his family’s needs and was proud to offer his love, guidance, and expertise. There was nothing he didn’t do for his family, and he was honored to be his son’s confidant and buddy. He was very handy and an expert with tools. A master of many trades, his specialty was working with sheet metal. Jim enjoyed visiting the casino, riding his motorcycle, and cooking outdoors with his family. He looked forward to spending winters in Florida with his wife. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Jim is survived by his wife, Marie; his daughter, Diane M. Woods of Utica; his son and daughter-in-law, James M. “Jimmy”, Jr. and Mary Ann Talento of Deerfield; and his grandchildren, Chris J. Woods of St. Petersburg, FL, Stephen J. DeGrace III and wife Teresa, and Mary Ann A. Talento and Phil Sinnott, Jr., all of Utica. Survivors also include his sisters, Carolyn Talento and Connie Watz of Glendale, NY, and Mary Jane of Ohio; his brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Myrna Talento of Chadwicks; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and special in-laws, Theresa Sansone and Violet and John Distante; and many special friends. He was predeceased by his sisters, Angela Talento, Rose Mary Montena; his brother, John Talento; and his brother-in-law, Paul Sansone. The family extends sincere appreciation to the members of the Utica Fire Department Rescue One for their valiant efforts; and the Emergency Room staff of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center for their care and professionalism. Visitation will be held Tuesday (today) from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jim’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Tuesday evening at 6:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Rev. Anthony LaFache officiating. Military Honors will be conferred by the United States Navy. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
