Mr. James T. "Jim" Fitzgerald

NEW HARTFORD – Mr. James T. “Jim” Fitzgerald, age 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Born in Utica on April 26, 1949, James was the son of the late James C. “Fitz” and Thelma M. (Marrone) Fitzgerald. Raised and educated in Utica, he was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1967. A proud Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Jim honorably served his country during the Vietnam era. Jim lived in Phoenix, AZ for a period of 30 years. While there, he was employed as a supply technician, the position from which he retired. He then returned to the Utica area following his retirement, where he has since resided. He was a member of the New Hartford American Legion Post 1376. Jim was an avid Colts fan, and a diehard Dodgers fan, originally rooting for them in Brooklyn and maintaining his dedication to them when they moved to L.A. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing softball for the Arcuri’s Bar team. Jim enjoyed gathering with his loved ones for special events; he always looked forward to that time spent together. He shared his dry wit with everyone he met. He relished being with his nieces and nephews, especially Michael who was always entertaining him. Jim loved to eat, particularly around the holidays which consisted of great food and football. He is survived by his sister, Christyne L. Casatelli; brother and sister-in-law, Michael P. and Melissa Fitzgerald; nieces and nephews, Ryan Casatelli and his wife Elizabeth, Daniel Casatelli and his partner Michael Racioppa; Julian Smith and his fiancée Alexendra Brisbin, Michael C. Fitzgerald, Barrett Fitzgerald, Micaela Fitzgerald, and Avery Fitzgerald; great-nieces, Maizie Casatelli, and MacKenzie Casatelli; numerous cousins; and life-long friend, Joe Fraccola. The family wishes to thank the nurses at 3W at Wynn Hospital for the care and compassion they displayed to Jim and his family, especially acknowledging Darlene, and Arianna. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. A Final Blessing will be shared at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home and Military Honors will be conferred by the U.S. Marine Corps. In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions in Jim’s honor may be made to Feed Our Vets online at https://feedourvets.org; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
