Israel "Lilo" Quinones Ortiz

Mr. Israel “Lilo” Quinones Ortiz, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with the love and support of his family. Born in Las Maria, Puerto Rico on January 23, 1931, Israel was the son of the late Sebastian Quinones and Regina Ortiz. He was raised and educated in Puerto Rico. Israel’s first marriage to Maria Soto was blessed with two daughters. After Maria’s passing, he entered into a second union with Elsa L. Torres Fores, a union that was blessed with another daughter. Lilo worked as a taxi driver for more than 60 years until his 80’s when his ill health caused him to retire. A true gentleman, he was always concerned with the safety and satisfaction of his passengers, and he was happiest if his patrons had a smile upon their face. Lilo was a strong man with a soft heart filled with the cherished happiness he derived from the simple pleasures and the family values of life. He loved to dance, and he had a glow that lit up a room. He was a man of faith and belief in God. Lilo is survived by his daughters and their partners, Yolanda Quinones and Victor Rosas, and Maria Quinones, all of Utica; Elizabeth Quinones and Javier; and her mother, Elsa, all of Puerto Rico; his grandchildren, Jose Soler, Linnette Soler, Ricardo Soler, Rosa and Steven Cintron, Christa Cintron, Pedro Cintron, Alondra Ceuvas, Elsie Lugo, and Barbara Lugo. Always close to Israel’s heart was the memory of his granddaughter, Maria Cintron who preceded him on December 8, 2011; and his great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Ashley Valentin, Saul Rivera, Steven Negron, Xander Cintron, Isis Nayelis, and Jesus and Joan Conde. In addition, he leaves his 12 siblings and their families. Visitation will be held Saturday from 2:30-3:30 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Israel’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation. Interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
