Mrs. Hilda (Tagliaferri) Mardany

Mrs. Hilda (Tagliaferri) Mardany, age 82, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Upstate Medical University with her loving family by her side. Born in Rome on April 10, 1929, Hilda was the daughter of the late Cesare and Teresa (Straccamore) Tagliaferri. She was raised and educated in Rome, having graduated from Rome Free Academy. On September 1, 1952 she wed Gabriel “Gabe” Mardany and shared with him 58 years of marriage based on mutual love and lifelong friendship. Hilda began her working career with the Utica City School District as a secretary for many years, subsequently taking a position with the Oneida County Office of the Aging. Hilda was a kind woman, devoted to her family, and helpful to those in need, assisting in any possible way. She was an excellent cook, famous for her homemade angel hair pasta, and her Italian cooking will best be remembered by her loved ones. A craftsperson by nature, she was accomplished at stitching, crocheting, and needlework. She was a parishioner of St. Louis Gonzaga Church and a member of the St. Anthony Guild. Hilda is survived by her husband, Gabe; and her daughter and son-in-law, Gabrielle and Michael Hope of Syracuse. In addition, she leaves many nieces, nephews, especially acknowledging Edward Dixon Peters, Robert Tastle, William Tastle, Louis Mardany, Edward Mardany, Sheila Simon, and David and Theresa Montana, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Margaret Mardany, and Dorothy Mardany. She was predeceased by her sister, Elena “Helen” Dolente; and her brothers, Vincent J. Tagliaferri, and Alfred Tagliaferri. The family extends sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Medical ICU at Upstate Medical Center for all their care and compassion. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The Prayer of Incense will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to the Upstate Cancer Center, c/o Foundation for Upstate Medical University, 750 East Adams Street, Syracuse, NY 13210; envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. Hilda’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at St. Louis Gonzaga Church where the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Chorbishop John D. Faris. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
