Helen C. (Maciewicz) Cioch

Mrs. Helen C. (Maciewicz) Cioch, age 85, formerly of the Utica area, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 26, 2013. Born in the Utica area on August 12, 1927, Helen was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Matuszewski) Maciewicz. She attended local schools and enrolled in a nursing curriculum at BOCES earning her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse. In 1949 she married Stanley Cioch who passed away in 1957. Helen began her nursing career as an LPN at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital where she was employed for over 20 years. She also worked as a private duty nurse, and lastly, she held a position at the Loretto Utica Center. She had a compassionate nature and a unique sense of humor, and will be remembered as a devoted and selfless mother. Her leisure interests included tending to her floral gardens and watching John Wayne movies which were a source of entertainment for her during her retirement years. Helen is survived by her son and daughters-in-law, Frank Cioch and Susan Hoffman of Seattle, WA; and Gloria Cioch of Frankfort; and her daughters and son-in-law, Margaret and Albert Francis of Schuyler, and Sharon Fisher of Sandy Creek, who was her devoted caretaker. Close to Helen’s heart were the memories of her sons, Stephen P. Cioch (1999), and Richard A. Cioch (2002), and her son-in-law, Richard L. Fisher (1999), all of whom preceded her in death. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Gloria and Bob Sheppard, Stephanie Cioch, and Carrie Fisher and fiancé Jade Coman. She was preceded by her granddaughter, Violet (Cioch) Morris, who passed away in 2011. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Jessica, and Bobby Sheppard; Danielle, and Dante Migliore; and Bobby, Gwendolyn, and Stephen Morris. Helen was one of 7 children including 3 sisters and 3 brothers. She was also blessed with the friendship and care of Michael Pongracz who she in turn, loved as a son. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Helen’s Memorial service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday, August 17 at 1:00 at Holy Trinity Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Fr. John E. Mikalajunas. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St. corner of Hammond Ave.
