Genevieve (Casatelli) Tomaino Buccolo

Mrs. Genevieve (Casatelli) Tomaino Buccolo, age 100, passed away at Mohawk Valley Health Systems at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on May 9, 1914, Genevieve was the daughter of the late Raffaele and Assunta (Tedesco) Casatelli. She was raised and educated locally. Genevieve was married in 1933 to Louis F. Tomaino who passed away in 1967. She was blessed with a second union in 1978 when she wed Joseph S. Buccolo with whom she shared 12 years prior to his passing on January 10, 1990. Both of her relationships were rooted in friendship and love. Genevieve lived life to the fullest and will be remembered for her confidence, decisiveness and strength of character. The matriarch of her family, she was so proud of the generations that followed and their memorable life events that were so precious to her. She took great pride in her home and her cooking. She also enjoyed sewing and creating window treatments for her home and for loved ones. She especially liked the lyrics and stories carried in the songs of country music. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Genevieve is survived by her daughter, Judi Russo of CT; her step-children, George J. and Theresa Buccolo of New Hartford, and David B. Buccolo of AZ; her grandchildren, Marc and Meghan Russo of CT, and Scott and Jeannette Russo of NJ; and her great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Justin, Ryan, Rita, and Eva Russo, and Piper Hauben. She will also be remembered by her sister, Louise E. Centolella (wife of the late Victor A. Centolella) with whom she shared a very close relationship; her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Jennie Casatelli of Whitesboro; many nieces, nephews, especially Mary Lou and Anthony Battaglia, Raymond Casatelli, Gary Casatelli, and Susan Warwick; great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; and her dear friend, Leona Napoli. The family extends sincere thanks to the staff of the Albany Household at the Masonic Care Community of NY for the outstanding and compassionate care rendered to Genevieve during her stay. Her family will honor and commemorate Genevieve’s Centenarian life in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Genevieve’s funeral service and Celebration of Life, which will commence on Wednesday afternoon at 12:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, due to renovations at St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be directed to the Masonic Care Community of NY; envelopes will be available at the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
