Mrs. Genevieve "Jenny" (Santino) Brescia

Mrs. Genevieve “Jenny” (Santino) Brescia, age 95, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016 at the Masonic Care Community of NY with her loving family at her side. Born in Utica on May 14, 1921, Genevieve was the daughter of the late Joseph and Antoinette Santino. She was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. During the World War II, Jenny worked as a Switch Board operator with the task of notifying families of the loss of their loved one in battle. On September 4, 1943 she married Nicholas J. Brescia, Sr. with whom she shared a union of love and commitment for 67 years prior to his passing on December 23, 2010. Jenny assisted her husband in the family concern, the Brescia Sign Company. She was also able to maintain a warm and loving home and the virtue of hard work was always the core of her accomplishments. She was a sympathetic soul, a good listener, and a wise woman who thought with her heart as well as her mind. She was admired for her selfless nature, and compassionate mannerisms. Violet plants adorned the front window of her home and her children have fond memories of her vision of hospitality and her preparation of many meals, especially for family reunions and festive holidays. She was a former member of the Daughters of Columbus, and a faithful communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. In her earlier years she was devoted to the St. Mary of Mt. Carmel and St. Anthony Church Novenas. Later in life she and her son Nicholas Brescia, Jr. attended Mass at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. God graced Jenny with children and two generations that followed them. She felt so proud of them, … and so blessed. Genevieve is survived by her son, Nicholas J. Brescia, Jr. of Utica; her daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Thomas Morelle of Whitesboro, and Carol and Dan Brzana of Rochester; Always close to her heart was the memory of her son, Joseph M. Brescia who passed away on March 9, 2001. She will also be remembered by her grandchildren, Bryan Morelle, Rob Morelle, Steve Morelle, and Kevin Morelle; Thomas and Adrienne Brzana, Christopher and Amanda Brzana, and Jamie Brzana and William Dunne; her great-grandchildren, Christopher Morelle; Zachary Morelle, Nicholas and Max Brzana; Joee Brzana, and Krystin Dunne. She will also be remembered by her sister, Josephine Sullivan, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, Rose B. Comito, Teresa Brown, Carmella and Dominick Rose, Patricia and Dr. Ramon Salas, and Jeanette Brescia. She was predeceased by her sister, Veronica Santino; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Ann Santino, Sam and Angeline Santino, and James and Catherine Santino; her in-laws, Mary and Joseph A. Riccardi, Fred A. Brescia, Anthony and Mary Brescia, Joseph and Betty Brescia, and Frank and Josephine Brescia; her niece; and several nephews. The family offers sincere thanks to staff of the Masonic Care Community who assisted the family in caring for Jenny in her last years. The personnel of the Yonkers Household were outstanding in their compassion and became part of her family. Thanks also to Deacon Bill Dischiavo who prayed with Jenny during her last days. Jenny’s family will honor and celebrate her life in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Genevieve’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Friday morning at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
