Mrs. Generosa (Lopez) Rivera

UTICA - Mrs. Generosa (Lopez) Rivera, age 95, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the St. Luke’s Home with her loving family by her side. Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on December 8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Jesus Lopez and Monserate Rivera. Generosa was the mother of eight children born in Puerto Rico and together, they relocated to Utica. Generosa’s main responsibility in her life was being a mom, nurturing her children and caring for her home. A tenacious and strong-willed woman, her personality was balanced with a sense of humor and a loving heart. She was a great cook, and her rice pudding was the best! She also loved to sew and create new articles of clothing. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Christian community, and above all, her Christian faith and love of God was her moral compass in life. Generosa was a prayer warrior; Psalm 91 was dear to her, and the Bible was her favorite book. The Lord heard her prayers and blessed her days on earth —- she was beloved by all five generations of her family. Generosa is survived by her children, Blanca E. Martinez, Amelia Rivera, Gloria Rivera, Anibal Rivera, Felix Rivera, Jose A. Rivera, and Olga Iris Rivera. Always close to her heart was the memory of her son, Israel Rivera, who passed away in 2006. Their father, Martin Rivera passed away in 2007. She also leaves many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother, Jose Lopez, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Her life was bountiful with wonderful friends, especially Anita, her best friend and sewing buddy. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10:00-12:00 noon at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Generosa’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Thursday at 12:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Pastor Caleb Casildo officiating the ceremony. Committal prayers and Interment will follow graveside in Calvary Cemetery. Psalm 91 1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. 9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, 10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. 14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
