Mr. Frederick "Kerns" Laurie

UTICA - Frederick “Kerns” Laurie, age 77, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 13, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving, devoted wife Tina of forty years and other loving family members. Kerns was born on September 10, 1945 in La Plata, Maryland. Kerns was the son of the late Frederick Clark and Esther Elizabeth (Kerns) Laurie. Kerns worked hard all his life as the owner of Kerns Laurie Construction. He loved building things with his hands and took the utmost pride in his work. His craftsman skills were like no other. Whatever Kerns repaired or built, it was done with perfection. Kerns built his own home where he and his wife have resided for the past 23 years. Kerns loved to travel with his family and would vacation yearly in Florida. He mostly traveled in the States because he didn’t like to fly; however, he made an exception and took his wife to her homeland in Italy, a trip which she will never forget. Kerns and his wife were able to enjoy and cherish one last vacation in Florida in May of 2022. Kerns was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness and dedicated his life to the local congregation. He never missed a meeting during his treatments and would zoom in from home. He formed many loving friendships with his brothers and sisters that he cherished. Kerns made a huge impact on all the lives he touched. He was a man of great integrity and was the most kind, caring, empathetic human being you could ever meet. He would do anything for anyone without hesitation. He cared for everyone around him and always put them before himself. If you met him, he would ask many questions to get to know you and you genuinely felt that he cared. Kerns was a great husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many and will be deeply missed. Kerns is survived by his wife of forty years, Tina; stepchildren and their spouses, Robert Reinhardt (Mary); Lorraine Sanders (Jeff); David Reinhardt (Janet); Kevin Reinhardt; Keith Reinhardt (Courtney); 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and dear friends Bill Towne and Jessica Scialdo. The family is extremely grateful and would like to thank Jeff and Roxanne Toczydlkowski for providing Kerns with such loving and compassionate care. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 585 Trenton Road, Utica, NY.
