Felicia E. "Liz" (DiOrio) Guido

Mrs. Felicia E. “Liz” (DiOrio) Guido, age 97, formerly of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at Valley Health Services, Inc., in Herkimer where she currently resided. Her loving family was by her side at the time of her passing. Born in Utica on March 18, 1910, Felicia was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Mary Rose (Mangano) DiOrio. She was raised and educated locally. On May 4, 1957 in Frankfort she married Joseph J. Guido with whom she shared 41 years in a blessed relationship until his passing on February 7, 1999. As true companions, the couple shared mutual devotion and a long time love for each other. Liz began her working life at age 15 as a machine operator at the Oneita Knitting Mills in Utica, retiring in 1958. She was a strong, independent woman, and her family was the core of her life. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church. Liz is survived by her step-daughter, Mary Louise Soccorgi of West Virginia; her nieces and nephews, Frances and Ken Elow, Donald and Marie DiOrio, Fred and Kathy Barone, William and Bliss Newcomb, Connie and James Pagan, and Denise Rogers; her devoted great-niece, Grace Leone; and her many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her step-son, Luigi Guido; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Thressa and Joseph Graziano, Florence and Harold Newcomb, Caroline and Julian Barone, and Philomena “Fanny” and Sidney Rogers; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony and Josephine DiOrio, and Bernard and Theresa DiOrio; and her in-laws of the Guido family. The family extends thanks to Lisa Betrus and the entire staff at Valley Health Services in Herkimer. In keeping with Felicia’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Church. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Felicia’s honor to the Association of the Blind or to Valley Health Services; envelopes will be available at the service. Entombment will take place at Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
