Mrs. Fannie L. (Walker) Hammonds

UTICA - Mrs. Fannie L. (Walker) Hammonds, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 5, 2021. Born in Arkansas on January 3, 1942, Fannie was the daughter of the late Veo and Isabella Walker. During her younger years she worked alongside her parents and siblings in the cotton fields. This period of her life fostered her hard work ethic. On July 25, 1964 she married Sammie Hammonds with whom she shared two daughters. They were sweethearts and strengthened by the love and respect that wove them together, they strived to provide a great home life for their girls, and together, they made it look easy! Her beloved Sammie passed away on October 1, 2010. Fannie was employed by St. Elizabeth Hospital in the Linen Service Department for over 35 years. She was a faithful, longtime member of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. She was very devoted to the Lord, and you could often find her praying. She was a doting grandparent who loved having her babies around her. Her quiet nature was complemented by her funny side; she was quick-witted and quite the joker. She loved sports, especially the San Antonio Spurs. She was a true fan and frequently she and her sister Barbara would talk on the phone a million times a day about the games! Fannie also took a keen interest in tennis. She was a very creative person who enjoyed embroidery, carpentry work, working on puzzles and legos, and cooking. Fannie is survived by her daughters: Louise (Miranda), Joanne (Alex), and Jacqueline (Jerry) Doxie; her grandchildren, Yazmeen, Octavis, Jasmine, Calandra, and Enricus; and great-grandchildren Jesiah and Zariah. Fannie is also survived by her siblings: Christine, Frankie, Ozellar, Hazel (Clayton), Barbara (Larry) Debra, Odell, JP, Travis (Izolia), Bennie (Mary Lois), Steven, Carl (Dora), Charlie, and Clint. Her in-laws, Frankie Walker, Nelle Hammonds, and Shirley Coleman. Fannie also leaves to mourn a host of relatives and friends including Alex who was like a son, Senora who was like a daughter and Rose Liggins a former co-worker and longtime friend. Fannie was predeceased by her siblings Veo, Vernon, Ernest, Will, and Gloridean. Her Aunt Irene, Godmother Coreen, mother-in-law Alice Marie Hammonds, sister-in-law Mary Alice Lee and a host of other brothers and sisters in-law. The Hammonds family would like to extend their warmest thanks to Nicole - Nurse on the ICU unit at St. Elizabeth Medical Center and members of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. And to all those who have called us, prayed for our comfort, showed compassion and support during this time of bereavement, the family is so thankful to all of you. Visitation will be held Saturday morning, April 17, 2021 from 11:00-12:00 noon at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Fannie’s funeral service and Home Going Celebration will commence at 12:00 at the funeral home. Face masks covering your nose and mouth are required and social distancing and contact tracing will be implemented. Interment in New Forest Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
