Evelyn M. (Fierro) LaPolla

Mrs. Evelyn M. (Fierro) LaPolla, age 79, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Christmas Day, December 25, 2005, in the comfort of her home. Born in Utica on February 27, 1926, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Fiore) Fierro. Raised and educated locally, she attended T.R. Proctor High School. On September 2, 1950 she married John A. LaPolla with whom she has shared a devoted and close relationship throughout their 55-year union. Mrs. LaPolla began her career experience in the employ of Horrock-Ibbotson. She then accepted a position with General Electric where she worked at the French Road facility prior to her retirement. Evelyn will be remembered by all who knew her as a wonderful and loyal friend. She was a good and attentive listener with an understanding and concerned attitude. Among her favorite pastimes, she especially enjoyed golf and bowling and belonged to numerous local leagues for each of these sports. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church and belonged to the parish's Holy Name Society. Mrs. LaPolla is survived by her husband, John. Her survivors also include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. In particular, she was blessed with a niece whom she thought of as a sister and a best friend, Patricia Artessa of Utica and her husband, Morris; as well as her special great-nephew and godson, Mark Artessa, whom she loved as a son; and Betty Campese. In addition, she is survived by her in-laws, Angeline LaPolla, and Louis LaPolla, Sr.; and her dear friend and neighbor, Rosa Druscovik, as well as her daughter, Lisa Gilberti. She was predeceased by three brothers, Anthony Fierro, Rocco Fierro, and Louis Fierro; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Angeline M. and Pasquale Sirianni, Antoinette and Dominick Grande, Theresa F. and Jack Rice, and Rose Terzo. The family extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. El-Khoury for his professional advice and his personal concern. Visitation will be held today (Tuesday) from 4-6 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mrs. LaPolla's funeral will commence on Wednesday morning at 8:00 from the funeral home and at 9:00 at St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will take place in the Calvary Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
