Evelyn L. Gary

UTICA - Evelyn L. Gary, age 47, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at MVHS at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her loving family. Born in Utica on April 18, 1971, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Norris, Sr. and Annie L. (Dexter) Gary. Raised and educated locally, she attended Utica Free Academy. She shared in a loving, longtime relationship with Donald Billins. At one time, Evelyn held a position at the Court Street Clinic in the Medical Records Department. More recently, she worked at the Sister Rose Vincent Family Medicine Center on Hobart Street up until her illness. Evelyn was a hard worker and did all she could for her family, especially her grandkids. They were her world. She looked forward to family gatherings and her cookouts. Evelyn had a beautiful sense of humor and a memorable laugh. She enjoyed her trips to Turning Stone with her loved ones to try her luck at the slot machines. Evelyn is survived by her longtime love, Donald Billins; her daughter, Clora Evans; and her son, Gregory L. Gary Sr. and Mariah Geigel, all of Utica; and her grandchildren, Jesus Sanchez, Javier Sanchez, Jha’sierra Evans; Gregory L. Gary Jr., Andre M. Rios, Noah Gary, and Jaysion Gary. She also leaves her sisters and brother-in-law, Mae Frances Gary, and Phyllis and Richard Savage, Jr.; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Willie and Valerie Dexter of Georgia, Norris Gary Jr. and Clynell Gary, John Gary, and David Gary and Sheryl Hawkins; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, a host of aunts and uncles; and her godchildren, especially acknowledging Saghera Shirley, Soren Shirley, and Kaseem Carr. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of MVHS at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Intensive Care Unit for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held Monday from 1:00-2:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Evelyn’s Home Going and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday afternoon at 2:00 at the funeral home immediately following visitation with Pastor Marilyn Bell officiating the ceremony.
