Emilie (Mardiros) Hallak

Mrs. Emilie (Mardiros) Hallak, age 82, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at the St. Luke’s Home. Born in Alepo, Syria on December 23, 1923, Emilie was the daughter of the late George and Lucy (Dfinkchi) Mardiros. She was raised and educated in the city of her birth. In 1941 she married Rizkallah “Raymond” Hallak with whom she shared a union of 35 years prior to his passing on August 27, 1976. Emilie and Raymond enjoyed a marriage securely founded upon their mutual respect and devotion as well as upon their deep love for one another and for their family. Mrs. Hallak was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a beautiful person whose foremost purpose and greatest happiness in life was caring for her family and tending to their needs. She took great pride in loved ones throughout each succeeding generation, supporting in turn her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchild. She loved to cook and it was an activity in which she was very skilled. She enjoyed nothing more than preparing meals and favorite dishes for her family. Among her favorite pastimes, she especially liked to travel, play cards, and play Bingo. A communicant of St. Louis Gonzaga Church, she also belonged to the St. Theresa Society, the St. Joseph Society, and the Forever Young Club. Mrs. Hallak is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Jeanette and Assad Charbel, Josephine Hallak, and Camilla Jacubowski, all of Utica; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Maria Hallak of Miami FL; her grandchildren, Emile Charbel, Carrie Charbel, Paul Charbel, Jack Manasyeti, George Manasyeti, Cynthia Jacubowski, Jennifer Jacubowski, Roy Hallak, Assad Ghiel, Kama Ghiel, Tony Ghiel, George Ghiel, and Andre Ghiel; and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Duff. She is also survived by a sister, Alice Tahan of Miami FL. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and her in-law, Marie Rose Hallak, of Lebanon. She was preceded in death by a beloved daughter, Marie Theresa Ghiel, who passed away in 1978. The family offers its sincere thanks to Father Bassam Saade, to Dr. Muhammed Raees and Dr. Maria Gesualdo, to the nurses and staff of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center ICU and to the personnel of the St. Luke’s Home. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The Prayer of Incense will be offered this evening at 6:30. Please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Emilie’s honor to the St. Louis Gonzaga Building Fund; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mrs. Hallak’s funeral will commence tomorrow morning (Thursday) at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Louis Gonzaga Church where the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Father Bassam Saade, Pastor. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
