Elvira D. (Amadio) Getti

Mrs. Elvira D. (Amadio) Getti, age 88, of Utica, and more recently in the care of the Masonic Care Community of NY, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2008 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with the love and support of her family. Born in Utica on January 10, 1920, Elvira was the daughter of the late Modesto “Whitey” and Theresa (Cardesio) Amadio. Raised and educated in Utica, she attended Utica Free Academy and was a graduate of the Utica School of Commerce. On December 3, 1941 she was united in marriage to Vito “Jack” Getti with whom she shared 59 years prior to his passing on November 16, 2002; they were truly dedicated to one another and affectionate in their mutual love. A dedicated housewife and homemaker, Elvira saw to the needs of her family which included working outside of her home during her husband’s illness. She was employed by Oneida County in the Clerk’s office, where she was responsible to her position and retired after 20 years of service. Elvira’s unconditional love was so evident in her actions and loyalty to her loved ones. Always first to embrace and comfort, she was legendary to those values. A person to be counted upon, she was wholeheartedly a good and generous soul. Her pastime talents were crocheting and knitting, but her greatest gift was her baking skills. Her home was a welcoming place to entertain and share great times, and it served as an expression of Elvira’s graciousness. She also enjoyed her camaraderie with “The Merry Makers”, an informal group of friends who socialized and celebrated memorable occasions for so many years. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Elvira is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jack, Jr. and Frances B. Getti of Utica. Always close to her heart was the memory of her beloved son, Eugene R. “Gene” Getti, and her infant daughter, Jacqueline, who preceded her in death. She was affectionately known as Mia to her grandchildren, Lisa and Brian Kempisty of Syracuse, and Jeffrey S. Getti of Utica; and her great-grandchildren, who also knew her as Mia, Brianna, and Jaeden Kempisty; and Owen Getti. Survivors also include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and brother-in-law, Corrado Getti of Remsen. She was blessed with wonderful friends throughout the years, and her canine companion Harley, who was of great companionship to her. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine and William R. Ciruzzi, and Lyda M. and Joseph Conte; her brothers-in-law, Dominick, Joe, Peter, and Guido Getti; and her sisters-in-law, Mamie Garofalo, Rose Knapik, and Vinnie Anderson. The family is grateful to the outstanding staff members of the Windham household of the Masonic Care Community of NY who were so compassionate and loving while caring for Elvira. Each of them made her feel so special and assisted in the transition. Visitation will be held Wednesday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Elvira’s honor to the Masonic Care Community of NY; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Elvira’s funeral service will commence on Thursday morning at 8:30 from the funeral home and at 9:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will take place in the Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
