Elizabeth "Betty" (Trivieri) Salamida

Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” (Trivieri) Salamida, age 93, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013 at The Pines at Utica with her son, Mark, by her side. Born in Utica on December 11, 1920, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Carmen and Rose (Parisi) Trivieri. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1939. On November 22, 1945 she married John S. Salamida with whom she shared 58 loving years until his passing on June 19, 2004. For many years, Betty was employed by The Princess Shop as a bookkeeper. A devoted matriarch, Betty was grateful for all the opportunities presented to her during her lifetime and the accomplishments she achieved. She was very capable in the kitchen where she enjoyed cooking for her family and was most renowned for her acclaimed baked lasagna. She treasured her time at the family camp at Black River which was one of her most favorite pastimes. She also loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas, Hawaii, and on her trips to Turning Stone Casino. She was a member of the I.A.M. (International Association of Machinists), and the Italian American Heritage Club. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Betty is survived by her sons and families, Richard J. and Maria E. Salamida of Utica, Joseph and Deborah Salamida of Clark Mills, and Mark Salamida and Stephen Mendrek of Syracuse; her grandchildren, Tracy and Michael Bassett, Steven and Christine Salamida, and Joseph Salamida II. Always close to her heart was the memory of her grandson, Andrew Salamida, who preceded her in death. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Hailey and Michael Bassett, Maeve Salamida, and Sean Salamida; many nieces, especially Rose “RJ” Mazzei who was like a daughter, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law, Linda Trivieri. She was predeceased by her brothers and sister-in-law, Nicholas and Sadie Trivieri, and Orlando “Lefty” Trivieri; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Fred F. Faccioli, Alma Trivieri, and Theresa “Lil” and Louis J. Mazzei; and her in-laws, Philomena “Fannie” and Dominick Perta, and Rita Estelle and John A. Palmisano. The family extends sincere appreciation to Debbie Hajdasz and her son Anthony Leone. Debbie was like a Guardian Angel to Betty, allowing her to have the comforts of her home, and Anthony was like a grandson. Thanks also to the staff of the 3rd floor at The Pines of Utica, and her neighbors and good friends, Marie Robertaccio and Dick and Theresa Pitrel, for all their care. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Expressions of sympathy in lieu of floral offerings may be considered to St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Betty’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
