Mrs Eleanor A. (Vivenzo) Acquaviva

Mrs. Eleanor A. (Vivenzo) Acquaviva, age 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Upon her passing, she was in the hearts of her loved ones. Born in Utica on July 30, 1936, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Gerald P. “Jerry” and Mary (Baleno) Vivenzo. She was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1954. On October 11, 1957 she married Peter M. Acquaviva, Sr.; during their 41 year union he was a sensitive, supportive husband, and she was a hard-working, devoted wife. Together they complimented each other’s personalities. Her husband Peter passed away on May 19, 1999. Eleanor began her employment at the New York Telephone Company. She then worked at an accounting firm, which led to community awareness of her expertise as a tax preparer. Most notably, she will be remembered as one of the original managers of the Steinhorst Square Apartments located on South Street. MB Management Company was her employer and she was credited for personalizing the facility and maintaining a great relationship with the tenants. As a manager at work or a matriarch at home, Eleanor was a knowledgeable, fair-minded woman. Her optimistic words of wisdom defined her reality and inspired and nurtured all who knew her. Her family honored her goodness and guidance and held her in high esteem. She was at her best when she was “doing something” to help those she loved. Eleanor was blessed with a loving relationship with her grandchildren and it touched her heart to know each of them individually and be a part of their lives. She kept an immaculate home and was acclaimed for her artistic decorating talents. She was also impeccable in her attire and exuded great grace and style. Even in the face of physical limitations, Eleanor’s strong will prevailed; she was a positive role model who inspired others by the hope and courage that guided her life. Eleanor is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Peter M., Jr. and Tina Acquaviva of New Hartford, and Robert F. “Bob” and Dawn Acquaviva of Utica; and her cherished grandchildren, Alyssa, and Emily Acquaviva; and Alex Acquaviva. She will also be missed by her sisters, Angela “Ann” Scheuer of CT, and Geraldine Robilotto of Poland, NY; her brother and sister-in-law, Guy and Shirley Vivenzo of Whitesboro; her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, and godchildren, Laurie Graziano Veinot, Ricky Graziano, and Mary Vivenzo. She was also blessed with many close friendships throughout her life. She was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Bosco. The family is grateful to the nurses and staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center 4th Floor Special Care Unit for their compassion and kind concern for Eleanor during her untimely passing. Eleanor's wishes were for all to gather for her Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life which will be held on Tuesday morning at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, officiated by Rev. Abe Esper. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
