Mrs. Edith M. (Cappelli) Suppa

Mrs. Edith M. (Cappelli) Suppa, age 93, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving children and grandchildren by her side. Born in Utica on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1918, Edith was the daughter of the late Antonio and Mary (Snow) Cappelli. She was raised and educated locally. On October 21, 1939 she married Peter J. Suppa with whom she shared 63 years in a marriage marked by their attributes of self-reliance, sacrifice, and a steadfast love for each other prior to his passing on November 1, 2002. Edith worked as an assembler in the Radio/Receiver Department at the General Electric Company. Later on, she held a position with the Utica City School District as a School Bus Aide, the position from which she retired. Edith possessed a friendly, outgoing, and kind heart which was filled with love for her family. She exemplified goodness in her kind ways. A vivacious woman, she enjoyed dancing, and was known for twirling up a storm on the dance floor. She shared time with her grandchildren and family, never afraid to join in on the fun. At home, she was an excellent cook, and she took great satisfaction in sharing Sunday meals with family; she was known to have the very best sauce this side of Italy. She will be remembered for her vibrant character and her deep love of her family. She was a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Edith is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Mary Ann Suppa and Ben Julian, and Sandra “Sandy” and Pasquale “Pat” Mungari, all of Utica; and her daughter-in-law, Marie A. (Surace) Suppa of Canastota. Always close to her heart was the memory of her son, Gerald P. “Jerry” Suppa, who passed away on February 28, 2011. She also leaves her grandchildren, Michael G. and Kerry L. Suppa of Blossvale, Gerald S. Suppa of Oneida, Dr. Joseph and Amy Mungari, and Jacquelyn “Jacki” and John Vitullo, all of New Hartford; and her great-grandchildren, Laura Suppa, Edward Humphreys, Kayla Suppa, Justin Tornatore and his son Jacob, Joseph Jr. and Alexandra Mungari, and Sophia, and John Vitullo, Jr. In addition, she leaves her sister, Gloria Cappelli of New Hartford; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law Victoria “Vicki” Perritano of Utica. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathryn and Frank Kelley, and Theresa and Anthony Yacovella; her brother, Angelo Cappelli; and her in-laws, Elizabeth and Gilbert Lee, Frank J. III and Marietta Suppa, Salvatore Perritano, and Ambrose Cappelli. The family is grateful to all the caregivers that tended to Edith, especially Dr. Scott Brehaut and the St. Elizabeth Medical Center Orthopedic 2nd floor nurses and staff, for their sensitivity and expertise. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Edith’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Anthony P. LaFache. The family will receive visitors at the end of Mass. By family request, please omit floral arrangements. Inurnment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
