Mrs. Edith P. (Gianotti) Camesano

NEW HARTFORD – Mrs. Edith P. (Gianotti) Camesano, age 82, went home to the Lord and was reunited with her parents on Sunday, August 18, 2024. She passed away peacefully. Born in Utica on June 27, 1942, Edith was the daughter of the late Vincent A. and Mary (Morice) Gianotti. She was a member of the T.R. Proctor High School class of 1960 and attended SUNY Albany, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math Secondary Education, graduating in 1964. She furthered her education at SUNY Potsdam and earned her master’s degree also in Math Secondary Education. This was the beginning of a wonderful and fruitful teaching career for Edie. Edie wed Theodore A. “Ted” Camesano on June 26, 1965, a blessed union of 59 years. They were lifelong friends who treasured their shared passions and dreams. Edie and Ted shared a great sense of devotion to each other, and their relationship was filled with many common bonds. They shared a strong sense of integrity, and their daughters pridefully witnessed this admirable quality. An educator, Edie taught 8th grade algebra, serving Whitesboro Middle school for 33 years and retiring in 1998. She was admired by her colleagues for her interest in her students and her devotion to the curriculum. Edie truly was her best self when she was teaching, allowing her students to excel at mathematics. Edie was a very sincere and sweet person. She had her own unique laugh and a memorable smile that she wore until the very end. She was a great conversationalist, and with telephone in hand, she was always checking in with her loved ones and friends. Edie was meticulous in the care of her home, particularly when it came to holiday decorations. She helped to create an environment that housed so many happy memories over the years for her family. She was a fashionable dresser and always tried to look her best. She enjoyed shopping and browsing about. A savvy shopper, she was always on the lookout for a sale. An avid reader, Edie loved reading and sharing good books. When watching TV, she loved General Hospital, a generational pastime that started with her mother and has been passed on to her daughters. Watching a good story on TV provided a time to relax, bond with one another and was something she enjoyed until the very end. As a couple, in their retirement years, Edie and Ted traveled with co-workers and visited much of Europe and Florida. Even though they were able to travel far, they still enjoyed the local sights, such as Old Forge, stopping for Mass at St. Mary of the Snows in Otter Lake, or dinner and desserts at Sylvan Beach, watching the boats and sunsets. Even just being together on simple, everyday trips brought Edie and Ted pleasure. They belonged to a wine club where they learned so much about wine from different regions while greatly enjoying the company of friends. Edie was very close with her sister, Francine. They shared secrets and dreams. They could depend on one another for anything. Sisters make the best friends in the world, and Edie and Francine were a testament to this. They were protective, supportive, and helpful to each other over the years. Edie was thankful for each precious day she was able to share with her loved ones. Attending Mass and Novenas renewed Edie’s spirit. She loved her Catholic faith. Edie always offered a candle for the intentions of others. Ted and Edie rooted themselves in their faith at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Edie is survived by her devoted husband, Ted; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Camesano and her husband Dr. John W. Byers, and Beth and James Hua; cherished grandchildren, John Ryan Byers, Andrew T. Byers; Alex Hua, Alan Hua, and Zoe Hua; and sister and brother-in-law, Francine and Don Lazzaro. She will live on in the hearts of her nieces and nephews, Donald J. Lazzaro, Jr. and his wife Kinga Kobialka, Marianne and Jonathan J. Grandusky; Stephen Mark, Jerry Mark; Dr. Terri Camesano and her husband Dr. Ramanathan Nagarajan, Alison Camesano and her husband Eric Sczerbaniewicz, and Jerry and Megan Camesano; great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins who were uniquely close and enjoyed each other’s company immensely; in-laws, Philomena and Philip Mark, and Gerald and Lucille Camesano; and treasured friends, Doris Ashcroft, and Mary Lou Sliski. Edie was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gerald and Antoinette (Solimando) Camesano. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Sitrin Health Care Center, especially Cedarbrook Assisted Living and the Cypress House for their outstanding and compassionate care of Edie as well as her husband Ted, and to the Daughter for Hire caregivers, who gave her children peace of mind and were Edie’s advocates when her family could not be present. They also wish to extend a special acknowledgement to Sandra White for her valuable advice and counsel. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Those unable to attend may be present virtually at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89784729799. In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association online at https://www.alz.org; envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Edith’s Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life, which will commence on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, 648 Jay St. The service will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/c/StMaryofMountCarmelBlessedSacrament. Entombment will follow in Calvary Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery.
