Dr. Toffe M. Hadity, DDS

Dr. Toffe M. Hadity, D.D.S., age 75, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with the love of his family beside him. Born in Utica on February 8, 1931, Toffe was the son of the late Toffe A. and Fannie (George) Hadity. Raised and educated locally, he was a 1949 graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. He continued his education at Utica College of Syracuse University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Science. He then attended Georgetown University where he was awarded his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. A proud veteran, Dr. Hadity served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as Chief Medical Officer and Instructor. He honored the time spent serving his country. On November 25, 1995, he married the former Joyce V. Tomaino. Love, respect, adoration, and companionship graced their lives. Joyce was the ‘joy’ of his life. Dr. Hadity garnered many accolades and was preeminent in his field. He earned the unique distinction of having the longest tenure as a practicing dentist in Oneida County. Through his leadership, he chartered the way for future members of his profession. He was committed to his patients, his profession, and his associations. He kept abreast of new techniques and procedures through professional literature, continuing education, and educational seminars. He had a passion for dentistry and was gratified and satisfied by his lifework. He was legendary to the many generations of Utica area families that he served. He was proud of his myriad vocational affiliations, including positions as Past President of the Oneida/Herkimer County Dental Society, Past President, 5th District Dental Society of NY State, honored recipient of a highly contended post-graduate Fellowship award with the American Dental Association, long time member of the American Dental Association, the NY State Dental Association, Past President of the Utica College Alumni Association, member of the Utica College Board of Directors for eight years and adjunct professor at M.V.C.C. in Dental Care. Toffe maintained a devotion to the New York Yankees and various Syracuse University sports teams, and as an athlete, he avidly played tennis from his youth until recent years. A savvy golfer, he frequented the Valley View fairways, a pastime he especially enjoyed with his sons. He had a talent for dancing, and a passion for traveling, ranging from weekend getaways to extensive trips. As an accomplished violinist, he was chosen to participate in the prestigious All-State string orchestra conference in high school and was a member of the Junior Symphony Orchestra. Faithful to his children and grandchildren, he attended their events, and was supportive and proud of them all. An abiding love for his family, a sense of humor, an affinity for nature, and pride for his heritage all add to the litany of his attributes. But his best legacy exists in the wisdom and guidance he bequeathed to all, a lasting legacy rooted in his efforts as mentor and advisor. Dr. Hadity was a devoted member of Historic Old St. John’s Church, and a cherished choir member for many years. He served his fellow parishioners as a Eucharistic minister. Dr. Hadity is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce; his children, Toffe M. “Chip” II and Ellie Hadity of New Hartford, John F. Hadity of NY City, Michael J. and Lynn Hadity of Long Island, Marc and Laurie Scotti of Holley, NY, and Stacey and William Paolozzi of Sauquoit, NY; his grandchildren, Shaun and Sarah; Joshua and Alexandria; and Gregory, Carey, and Ryan. In addition, he leaves his nieces and nephews, including Andrea and John Petrone of Utica, Melissa and Michael Evolo of Whitesboro, John and Nicole Hobika of New Hartford, and Michele Jackson, who was also a beloved Godchild who he adored, and her husband, Dr. Brian Jackson, D.D.S; also great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and aunts, including Angeline George. Also surviving are his in-laws, including Dr. John H. Hobika, as well as his father-in-law, Joseph A. Tomaino, Sr., Sandra and Harold Dowell, Bernice Marconi, and Joseph A. Jr. and Lee Tomaino; also surviving are Toffe and Joyce’s best of friends and traveling companions, Stephen and Joan Sotherden, as well as Dr. Louis Haddad, his lifelong colleague and confidant. Toffe was predeceased by his cherished sister, Anna Marie Hobika, his beloved uncle, Harold T. George, and his mother-in-law, Ida A. Tomaino. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of the 3rd floor of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their compassionate care and kindness. Visitation will be held Monday from 4-8 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Dr. Hadity’s honor to Historic Old St. John’s Church, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or the Utica Symphony Orchestra; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Dr. Hadity’s funeral will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at Historic Old St. John’s Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
