Mrs. Dorothy A. (Granata) Amado

UTICA – Mrs. Dorothy A. (Granata) Amado, age 88, was ready to see the Lord when she transitioned on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by her beloved husband, Mitch, and her children who all held her close to their hearts. Born in Utica on February 3, 1937, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Giosue “Joe” and Flavia “Florence” (Mineo) Granata. She was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School, Class of 1955. On June 21, 1958, she married Mitchell J. Amado, Jr. Theirs was a blessed union of nearly 68 years, built on trust. Dorothy was once a secretary at the General Electric Company at its Broad Street location. Once her children were born, raising them became her utmost priority. She later returned to the workforce, assuming a secretarial position at MVCC, where she worked for 20 years. She regarded her marriage and the raising and education of her children as her greatest accomplishments. Dorothy felt she had all the blessings a woman could ask for, and that everything had turned out as she had planned. She had no regrets. Dorothy loved the Lord. She held a rosary in her hand and let the Blessed Mother guide every decision she made. She was a devoted member of St. Louis Gonzaga Church. Father Boutros El Hachem was attentive in regularly administering Communion and the Sacraments to her. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Mitch; children and their loves, Marlene A. Amado, Mitchell J. III and Linda Amado, Diane M. and James Owen, Doreen M. and Dan Collea, and Daniel A. Amado and Kim Perkins; grandchildren, Anthony Amado, Michele Amado; Elias Owen, Jessica Owen, James Owen; Danielle Collea, and Luke Collea; Brittany and Tyler Sittig, Marissa Amado; and great-grandchildren, Elias Jon Sittig, and Carson Amado-White. She held close to her heart the memory of her sister, Mary Jane Granata, who preceded her and whom Dorothy never forgot. She is additionally survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; brother-in-law, James M. “Jim” Amado; and her many friends, as she was a social and compassionate woman who honored the many friendships that she grew over the years. Dorothy was additionally predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mitchell J. Sr. and Jennie Ann (Darjany) Amado; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Susan Amado. Gratitude is extended to the numerous physicians who cared for Dorothy throughout her life, especially Dr. Scott Brehaut of the Neuro ICU at Wynn Hospital. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dorothy’s funeral service, which will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, 520 Rutger St. There, the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Father Boutros El Hachem, after which there will be an opportunity to greet the family. In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions in Dorothy’s honor may be made to CURE – Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy online at www.cureepilepsy.org/donate; envelopes will also be available at the service. Entombment will take place in Christ Our Savior Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
