Doris (Harvey) Cittadino

Mrs. Doris (Harvey) Cittadino, age 59, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Masonic Care Community of NY with her loving family by her side. Born in Plainfield, NY on April 25, 1950, Doris was the daughter of the late Leslie and Cecelia (Schorer) Harvey. Raised and educated locally, she was a 1968 graduate of Utica Free Academy. On September 9, 1972 she married James A. “Jim” Cittadino with whom she shared 37 years; they were affectionate and trusting towards one another, sharing their souls within each other’s heart. Doris was involved in the medical profession for the past 20 years including positions at the Slocum-Dickson Medical Group and the Central NY Physiatry PC, prior to her illness. Doris was a woman whose life had come full circle. Within her she had the power to create, nurture, and share interests and duties, radiating out in all directions from her central motherly core. Her comforting smile lit up a room and was open to all points of the compass – her husband, children, siblings, friends, home, and community. She supported and protected her kinship, shared a passion for the blessing of her “3 sons”, and was a graceful partner to her adored Jim. Some of her fondest memories were weekends at Sylvan Beach during the summer months at the family camp where she was credited for always being supportive of “fun and good food”. Doris delighted in her winter vacations to Florida to visit family and savor the sunshine. She was a passionate reader of mystery novels and she was graced with a green thumb in nurturing indoor and outdoor plants which always flourished under her care. On the entertainment scene, she was a constant companion at Jim’s performances with his band for over 40 years and she danced to his music with great pride. As a wife and woman who truly loved her husband, she never lost the excitement of “date night” which was a deliberate way to spend joyful times with each other. Doris’ family was better off because their wife and mother was astonishing and occasionally bewildering. A community commitment was satisfied when she served as a board member of the Abraham House, a home for those in need during their final journey; this dedication was continued alongside her husband until she became ill. A woman of great spirituality, she was a communicant of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church and St. Mark’s Church. Doris is survived by her husband, Jim; and her sons and their families, Todd C. Cittadino and Lori Seguin, and Brad C. Cittadino and Tonya Holland, all of Stillwater, NY, and John A. Cittadino and Mitch Harrington of Utica. Survivors also include her sister, Rosemary Tamer of Utica; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Richard Naber, Andrew Cittadino, Luana Davis, Josephine “Feenie” and Anthony Allora, John A. Cittadino, Jr., Michael A. and Joan Cittadino, Sarah P. Cittadino, James Bice, and Connie Cittadino. Doris was also blessed with many longtime friends, especially Gail Perry, Beth and Tim Dundon, Greg and Bernie Raab, and Gary and Terry Soron. She was predeceased by her brothers and their wives, Vernon and Pearl Harvey, Leslie Harvey, William and Pat Harvey; her sister, Frances Naber; and her brother-in-law, Bert Tamer. She also shared a closeness with Jim’s parents who predeceased her, John A. Sr. and Lucy Cittadino; and her in-laws, Joseph A. Cittadino, Mary Lou Bice, and Thomas Davis. Doris knew the kindness and compassion of the following healthcare professionals who encouraged and strengthened her during her illness, including Dr. Timothy LaFont and his staff, especially Karen Rounds-Cleary, N.P., Dr. Nabeel El-Amir and his staff, Dr. Clifford Soults and his staff; the outstanding caretakers of the Hematology/Oncology Associates of Central NY, especially Dr. Santo DiFino and his staff, including Robin Neider, Dr. Tracy Alpert, and the kindness of Sue Deffar; and Dr. Guy Wilcox and the nurses and staff of the Albany Household of the Masonic Care Community of NY. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Doris’ honor to the Abraham House; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Doris’ funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at St. Mark’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
