Dorina "Doreen" (Sosteri) Mazzorana

Mrs. Dorina “Doreen” (Sosteri) Mazzorana, age 74, of Utica, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2008 at the St. Joseph Nursing Home with her loving family by her side. Born in Romania on October 27, 1933, Dorina was the daughter of the late Pietro and Eufrosina “Sophia” (Gheorghe) Sosteri. She was raised and educated in Romania and at the age of 10 she moved to Florence, Italy with her family. On May 29, 1955 she married Antonio “Tony” Mazzorana with whom she shared a loving and devoted union of 47 years prior to his passing on September 3, 2002. Soon after their marriage the couple relocated to the United States and settled in Utica. At one time, Doreen was employed by the Utica Mutual Insurance Co. and after that her primary focus was her home. Doreen’s family was the center of her life and she was always proud of each one of them and their achievements, and she instilled traditional values and principles in her children. A kind and gentle woman by nature, she made friends very easily with her outgoing and sparkling personality. At one time she was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, and most recently she was a communicant of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. Doreen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Donald “Donny” Ernst of Coral Springs, Florida; her sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph “Joe” and Pam Mazzorana of Deerfield, Robert “Bob” and Josephine Mazzorana of Utica, and Anthony, Jr. and Lara Mazzorana of Penfield, NY; and her grandchildren, Bianca Mazzorana, Gabriella Mazzorana, Danny Mazzorana, Claudia Mazzorana; Donnie Ernst, Devyn Ernst, and the greatly anticipated arrival of an expected grandchild. Always close to her heart was the memory of her granddaughter, Hope Mazzorana, who preceded her in death. Survivors also include her goddaughter, Vinicia DeFazio of New Hartford; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, in Italy; her in-laws, Vittoria, Rosetta, Salvatore, and Angelo, all of Italy; and her friend, Frances Padula. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Leonardo and Rosina Sosteri; her sisters-in-law, Lucia Mazzorana, and Maria Mazzorana; her brother-in-law, Natalino Mazzorana; and her dear friends, Maria Gigliotti, and Elena Gigliotti. The family is grateful to the nurses and staff of the 4th floor of the St. Joseph Nursing Home for attending to Doreen and her family during her brief stay. Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 10:00-11:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St. corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Doreen’s honor to the St. Joseph Nursing Home; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Doreen’s funeral service will commence on Thursday morning at 11:00 from the funeral home and at 12:00 noon at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
