Dominick Peter Carriero

Mr. Dominick Peter Carriero, age 82, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at The Pines at Utica. Born in Utica on July 13, 1928, Dominick was the son of the late Pietro “Peter” and Pasqualina (Sirianni) Carriero. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. A United States veteran, he served his country in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to the former Elizabeth J. Phelps and the couple shared in a loving and devoted union until his passing. At one time, Dominick held a position as foreman with the former Associated Transport. He subsequently retired from the City of Utica as coordinator of the Housing and Urban Development program (HUD) which he was instrumental in developing. One of his favorite pastimes was meeting with his Army buddies on Thursday mornings. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Dominick is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his daughter and son-in-law, Christine Carriero and Frank Cash of Colorado Springs, CO; his sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Lyvonne Carriero of Jacksonville, FL, and Robert and Delores Butler of Fredericksburg, VA; and his step-daughter, Carolyn Staudt of Frankfort. He cherished the memory of his grandson, Joseph P. Franchell, who passed away in 1998. He also leaves his grandchildren, Steven Franchell and Rebecca, Peter and Tracy Franchell of Utica, Jason Carriero, Justin Carriero, and Travis Carriero, and Scott Lawson; and his great-grandchildren, Steve, Samantha, Joseph, Haley, Alexandra, Ian, and Alexis. Survivors also include his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends, Mike Licari, Richard Mancini, and Matt Zenammo. He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and James Guarniero, Rose and Victor Contento, Arlene Carriero, and Caroline and Daniel Carcone. Visitation will be held Friday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Dominick’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday Morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
