Mrs. Dolores J. "Dee" (Dardano) Martellotto

Mrs. Dolores J. “Dee” (Dardano) Martellotto, age 85, of Utica, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2012 at the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. Dolores was born in Utica on November 21, 1926 the daughter of the late Salvatore and Agnes (Landof) Dardano. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On October 19, 1946 she married Nicholas A. Martellotto; they recently celebrated their 65th anniversary. As the matriarch of her family, Dee prided herself on caring for her family and home. She began her working career in 1967 as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Faxton Hospital, the position from which she retired. Many would also remember Dolores and Nick for the countless hours they volunteered their time and dedication to the residents of the Heritage Home. Dee enjoyed the simple things in life, especially her family and friends, and she left a legacy of love and memories for them to treasure. Dolores’ spirituality was genuine and universal, guiding all phases of her life. One of her most blessed moments was when she met Pope John Paul II. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish and a member of its St. Anne’s Society. Dolores is survived by her husband, Nick; her daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Len Streeper of NJ, Donna and Jim Boyce of Walden, NY, Maureen and Martin Cohen of FL, Susan Januszewski of Utica, Annette and Michael Hawkins of MD; her sons and daughter-in-law, John and Tammy Martellotto of TX, and Michael Martellotto of Alberobello, Province of Bari, Italy. She held in her heart the memories of her son, Nicholas A. Martellotto, Jr., and her daughter, Joanne Martellotto, who preceded her. She also leaves her loving grandchildren, Nicole (Duane) and Todd Horan; Matthew and Nicole Dallas, Claude Dallas, and Sarah Dallas; Joshua Cohen, and Randy Cohen; Alexander Januszewski, Jeremiah Januszewski, Samuel Januszewski, and Alizabeth and Timothy Roberts; Erica, Julia, and Olivia Hawkins; Danielle, Jacob, Allison, and Lucas Martellotto. She always cherished the memories of her grandsons, Eric Allan Duane, who passed away on Christmas Day 1994, and Jarrod Duane, who passed away on March 29, 2003. In addition, she leaves her great-granddaughters, Madeline Dallas, and Scarlett Ava Januszewski; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Salvatore Dardano of FL, Robert and Jeanne Dardano of Rochester, Richard and Marsha Dardano of Boonville, and Nicholas “Pete” and Cathy Dardano of FL; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many lifelong and family friends as well as fellow card players. She was predeceased by her sister, Sister M. Prisca Dardano; her brothers, James “Vincent” Dardano, and infant brother, Nicholas Dardano; her son-in-law, Joseph Januszewski; and her in-laws, Rafaele and Stella (Annese) Martellotto, Martha Sears, Raymond Martell, and Irene Dardano. The family extends their sincere appreciation to the Masonic Care Community especially those of Wiley Hall and the Erie Household. Those who cared for Dolores provided much kindness and personalized attention. The Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center provided compassion and comfort to Dolores as well as her family while she was under their care. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The family will remain until all visitors have been seen. Those wishing to express an act of kindness in lieu of flowers may make a donation to the American Lung Association, or to the family enabling them to establish a nursing scholarship in her memory; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dolores’ Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life which will be offered on Thursday morning at 10:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish officiated by Rev. James Cesta. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
