Mrs. Dolores C. "Honey" (Malerba) Mancini

Mrs. Dolores “Honey” (Malerba) Mancini, age 85, passed away with the love and support of her family on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Upstate Medical University Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Utica on May 5, 1931, Dolores was the daughter of the late Augusto and Carmella (Giampaolo) Malerba, the youngest of 7 siblings. Raised and educated locally, she attended Utica Free Academy. She continued her education at the St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1952 as a Professional Registered Nurse. On July 2, 1955, Honey was married to Henry J. Mancini at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, the same church she was baptized in, a union blessed with 61 years of mutual love and support. Whether in times of happiness or hardship, they were always of one mind and one heart, and their family was paramount in both. Dolores was devoted to her calling as a Family Practice Registered Nurse and she held positions at the offices of Dr. Hobart Parkhurst, Sr., Dr. Hobart Parkhurst, Jr and Dr. Nicholas Capuana. Honey had a smile for everyone she met. It was her nature to be kind, warm-hearted, and honest. She was humble and treated all with respect. As a mother, her love was always present and unconditional, and she found joy in cooking, baking, and caring for her family. Dolores was a positive role model and a good parent, and her children held her in high regard. She was a member of the New York Mills Senior Center, and she enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. She was an avid adult learner and participated in the Mohawk Valley Institute for Learning in Retirement (MVILR), a program that provides stimulating academic courses at the SUNY Poltechnic Institute's college campus. Dolores is survived by her husband, Henry; her children and son-in-law, Susan A. Connell, Diane M. Ford, Joseph A. Mancini, and Joanne and Preston Steffen; her 10 loving grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. Her extended family includes many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by 3 sisters, 3 brothers, and her in-laws of the Mancini family. The family is especially grateful for the professional and highly skilled care provided by the medical team at Upstate Medical University Hospital led by Dr. Taewan Kim and Dr. William Marx. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dolores’ funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Tuesday at 10:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. Inurnment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
