Daniel Edward Madigan

Daniel Edward Madigan, age 31, returned his positive energy to the universe as he passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in the comfort of his home. Born in Albany, NY on December 11, 1985, Daniel was the son of Cindy (Pritchard) Madigan and the late David E. Madigan. He was educated in the New Hartford School District and enrolled in the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute/School of Art. He was gifted and so creative in his abstract compositions. He continued his education at Adirondack Community College where he studied Anthropology, History, and Art. Danny then matriculated as a full-time student at MVCC, where he majored in Illustration, and seemed to thrive when he realized he was among kindred creative artists who also had unanswered philosophical questions about the nature of existence, the world, space and time, free will, and what, ultimately, is there, after life? This was Danny’s happiest time. It changed his life and he found his ‘je ne sais quoi. Danny held several jobs; most memorable were his summers at Charlie Boys working with Tim, and his time spent with Jade at Route 69 Steakhouse. As always, he was a dependable, reliable man, and if asked to do something, he would always do more. His professional life was mirrored in his personal life; you could not ask for a better son, brother, or grandson. Danny was caring, thoughtful, compassionate, and fiercely loyal. He was a most selfless soul and wanted to help others, unconditionally. He gave, even when he didn’t have it to give. He appreciated the things he had in life; the mainstays, a roof over his head, food on the table, love of family. He had an active mind, and his thoughts were always in motion. When he debated and conversed on politics, religion, history, or world justice, he would see both sides. He was open-minded, but had strong convictions. His creative imagination allowed him to think on multiple levels, and he realized that there was always something greater to believe in. Danny was blessed to have an alter ego in his niece, Emma. They shared similar creative aptitudes, and he encouraged her to develop her talents; they were best friends. Although he was older than his niece, he was able to delve into his childhood to when he was her age, and he understood her vision. He shared a special bond with his older sister, Jacinda, whose relationship only grew deeper and more profound throughout the years. Danny also had a younger brother, Dale, who was more his best friend, lifetime partner in crime, and sidekick, known as Dan and Dale. He often shared many enlightening conversations with the most unlikely of friends, Kelly English. Charcoal was his preferred medium for his sketches, but he also painted in oil and acrylic. The computer was a tool he used to create digital sketches, print out, and meticulously paint them. He was most proud of the refinement that came in his work with time. Dan’s mother was most appreciative and honored by her son’s unselfish and grateful nature. He shared a special bond with his “Nanee”, the pillar of the family. As matriarch, she helped raise the children. Danny proudly wore his family crest on his chest; he held high his Irish heritage and searched the history and genealogy of his ancestors. Danny was a unique man with a beautiful mind that we will never meet again. He lived life with intuitive wisdom and inner wealth. In many ways, he was an ‘old soul’ since he didn’t see the purpose of pursuing things that can be easily taken away. His love and the beauty of his work will live forever. Danny’s family meant the world to him. He is survived by his mother Cindy, who was very much in tune with her son and shared a great closeness; his sister, Jacinda N. Madigan; his brother, Dale R. Madigan; his beloved grandmother, Ruth Pritchard; his cherished niece, Emma Rose; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, including the one and only Aunt Jane Merry. His professional friends at MVCC include Scot Connor who was an inspirational friend and role model; and Sean Usyk, his artistic instructor who allowed him to express his talent and create a career. Those of you wishing to celebrate his life are welcome to join his family as they honor his uniqueness at his funeral service which will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church where his Memorial Mass will be offered by Pastor Anita Mohr. The family will visit with relatives and friends at the conclusion of the service. Please omit floral offerings.
