Mrs. Congetta Rose "Connie" (Dare) DiMare

UTICA- Mrs. Congetta Rose “Connie” (Dare) DiMare, age 91, passed away surrounded by her loving daughters on Monday, June 25, 2018 at the Masonic Care Community of NY. Born in Utica on August 16, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Katherine (Taverne) Dare. She attended T.R. Proctor High School and The Utica School of Beauty Culture. Connie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a quintessential “Nonnie,” opening her home and kitchen to friends and family throughout her life, creating delectable Italian feasts and traditions for all to enjoy. Her pizzelles and chocolate Italian cookies, which she often whipped up for her grandchildren, were among her many specialties. Visitors to her home were often met with the aromatic smell of meatballs and sauce simmering on the stove. Her annual holiday baking and cooking rituals became traditions, instilled in the lives of all who were connected to her; the Easter baked goods, Christmas P's & Q's, and Christmas Eve fish feasts were all created out of her deep love for family. Being a loving grandmother (and in recent years, great-grandmother) was one of her greatest joys in life. She was always the first to sing “Little Boy Blue” to a fussy baby (throughout multiple generations), to hold the hand of a grandchild seeking comfort, to play catch, listen to stories, and play “Old Maid” and Rummy. She was a constant in the lives of all of her grandchildren, and they all deeply cherish her love. She loved spending time in Old Forge with family, and often commented on the joy and serenity she felt while being at camp in the summer sun. As a lifelong parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, she was a devoted member of the League of the Sacred Heart and The Altar Rosary Society. Connie is survived by her two loving daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Larry Selinsky, and Maria and Timothy Trainor, all of New Hartford; six grandchildren, Connie and Matthew Brockett, Linda and Thaddeus Goff; Katherine and John Cotter, Jonathan and Natalia Trainor, Kyle Trainor, and Tessa and Nathan Richman; eight great-grandchildren, Adam, Jack, Mallory, Logan, Cameron, Christian, Finn, and Joseph. She is also survived by her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Morse; cousins, Connie Corasanti, Joseph Donovan, Angela Nole, Louis, William DeGironemo, and Fred Alsante; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and in-laws, Thomas Carcone, and Angelo and Sandy DiMare; and her goddaughter, Theresa Carcone. She was preceded by her loving husband Vincent DiMare; her brother Frank and his wife Marie Dare; and her sisters, Theresa Houck, and Carmella Carcone. A sincere thank you to Dr. Mark Blaker for the years of gracious care and compassion he gave Connie. Her family would also like to thank the thoughtful physicians, nurses, and staff at the Masonic Care Community of NY especially those of the Buffalo household. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Congetta’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Thursday morning at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Arthur Krawczenko. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Entombment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
