Colleen A. (Smith) Badger

Mrs. Colleen A. (Smith) Badger, age 49, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with the love and support of her family by her side. Born in Utica on February 2, 1960, Colleen was the daughter of the late William M. and Eleanor (Woolheater) Smith. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On April 8, 1978 she wed Kevin P. Badger with whom she shared 31 years. Their relationship was characterized by family and admiration for one another. Colleen held various positions with several local dry cleaning establishments including Progressive Cleaners for 18 years, and Berger’s Cleaners until her recent illness. Graced with a loving and caring heart, she merited the reputation of always putting the needs of others before her own. She was held high in the hearts of her children who respected, honored, and appreciated all that she did. She was especially proud of her ability to have been a loving wife, a good mother to her children, and a fun-loving grandmother who treasured her time with them. As a hobby, she collected ducks which were varied and vast. During her spare time, she enjoyed bowling and making homemade candy. Colleen is survived by her husband, Kevin; her daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly C. and Dominick Meyers of N. Utica, and Jacquelyn M. and Matthew Montrose of NY Mills; her son, Kevin P. Badger, Jr.; her grandchildren, C.J., Tessa and Autumn; and Makayla; and her step-mother, Barbara M. Smith. Survivors also include her sisters and brothers-in-law, Debra and Joe Reed, and Tracy and Todd Badger; her brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Jessica Smith, David Smith, Thomas and Michelle Smith, and William M. and Cristy Smith; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; her mother-in-law, Bertha E. Badger; and her in-laws, Susan Lineback, Denise Gleba and fiancé Charles Grizzard, and Mark Badger. Colleen also leaves her friend, Jennifer Badger and children, with whom she shared a great closeness and true friendship. She was predeceased by her father-in-law, Gerald “Jerry” Badger; and her brothers-in-law, David Badger, and Daniel G. Badger. The family is grateful to the staff of the 6th floor at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, especially Mandy Aiken, R.N., a most compassionate and loving person who cared for Colleen and her family. Visitation will be held Saturday (today) from 1:00-3:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Colleen’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Msgr. Francis Willenburg officiating. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
