Cheryl L. (Rotach) Yozzo

On Sept 9, 2011 Cheryl Lee (Rotach) Yozzo, age 65, of Utica and currently of Sumter, South Carolina, was flown to Heaven on the wings of an angel to be with the Lord after a heroic battle with cancer. Her passing occurred at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her family by her side. Cheryl was born on a golden autumn day October 29th, 1945 to Congetta (Arcuri) Marine) and the late Clyde Rotach – the 4th of 6 children. She grew up in East Utica and graduated from Proctor High School where she met the love of her life, Fredrick J. Yozzo. They were married June 8, 1963 and lived, loved and laughed for 48 years. They made their home in North Utica and later in Holland Patent. In 1995 they moved to Sumter, South Carolina. Cheryl was blessed with two children, Kristine Marie and Frederick Michael, both of whom she adored and doted on along with her precious grandsons Alex and Max. Cheryl attended cosmetology school and was a talented hairdresser for many years. At a later time she worked for the Utica School system and also for the District 17 school system in Sumter until she retired in May 2009. Cheryl will be remembered for many things, but the most important being her love of family. She was strength, she was joy, she was love. Her beauty radiated on the inside and out. Her smile was infectious, her warmth a comfort to all. Cheryl loved to bake and the delectable treasures that came out of her kitchen will be talked about and missed forever. She never met a person for whom she didn’t have a smile, kind word, or deed. Cheryl loved her faith and she was a devout Catholic. She was a member of St. Anne’s Church in Sumter and locally at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. She prayed hard and often and always believed in the power of Christ’s love. This faith was just one more gift she shared humbly and diligently with her family and those she loved. The world is a better place because Cheryl was here and sadder now that she has gone. Cheryl leaves behind her husband and soul mate Fred Yozzo; her beloved daughter and best friend, Kristine M. Farley of Sumter, SC; her cherished son Frederick M. Yozzo and his wife Julie of Charleston, SC; her two adored grandsons, Alexander G. Farley and Maxwell K. Farley; her loving mother Congetta Marine and loving mother-in-law Elizabeth Yozzo; her brothers and sisters whom she loved with all her heart, Frederick Rotach, Mary Anne Damuth, Clyde and JoAnne Rotach, Petronella “Penny” Yozzo and Janet Rotach. Always close to her heart, was the memory of her brother Gerald Rotach who preceded her; and their children, Jodi, Richie, Joshua, Autum, Jenna, Lori, Connie, Donald, Michael, Lynn, Renee and Jerry. She also leaves her in-laws, JoAnn Czerw, Michael A. and Lorraine J. Yozzo, Rich Yozzo, Ronnie Yozzo, Mark Yozzo and Marie Fracolla, always remembering the memory of her in-laws Marie Didio and Joseph P. Czerw, who preceded her in death; several other nieces and nephews who were all so very special to her; cousins, uncles, aunts, especially one who was very dear to her, Lalla Durante; and a multitude of friends near and far including Sharon and Dave Palczynski, Mary Bullard, and Amanda Prince all of SC. The family offers special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Roswell Cancer Institute who tried so diligently to save Cheryl; Hospice of Oneida County; our nurse and friend Kathy Smythe; the staff at St Elizabeth Medical Center who made her last few days dignified and comfortable; and her nephew Ray Tantillo, brother Clyde Rotach, brother-in-law Mark Yozzo, and all those who contributed to the benefit in her honor. The family will honor and commemorate Cheryl’s life in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Cheryl’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Tuesday afternoon at 12:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service.
