Mrs. Caterina (Rizzo) Nistico

UTICA - Mrs. Caterina (Rizzo) Nistico, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her family by her side. Born in the town of Cropani, Province of Catanzaro, Italy on January 19, 1939, Caterina was the daughter of the late Luigi and Maria Rosa (Iervasi) Rizzo. She was raised and educated in Italy. On December 14, 1958, in Italy, she married Giuseppe Nistico with whom she shared 58 years in a loving union. At one time, Caterina held a position as a seamstress with the Joseph & Feiss Company. As matriarch, she had a warm and caring heart. She was humble and always put the needs of her loved ones first. She enjoyed cooking for her family, knitting and crocheting, taking trips to casino resorts, gardening with her husband, viewing Italian TV shows, and spending quality time with everyone she loved. She simply enjoyed life. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Caterina is survived by her husband, Giuseppe; her daughters and sons-in-law, Maria Nistico and her husband Cesare Cimino of Torino, Italy, Angelina Mercurio and Brian Noggle of Deerfield, and Margherita and Randall Jackson of Lakewood NY; her son and daughter-in-law, Vincent Nistico and Tricia Tomaino-Nistico of Utica; her grandchildren, Giovanni and Deborah Cimino, Caterina Cimino and fiancé Luca Chiauzzi; Eugenio and Mallory Mercurio, Joseph Mercurio; and their father Luigi Mercurio; Benjamin and Tesla Jackson, Zachary Jackson, and Sabrina Jackson; her great-grandchildren, Gabriel, and Gaia. She also leaves her in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, especially acknowledging her cousin Giannina. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Angelo and Melina Rizzo; and her sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Antonio Mancuso. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Caterina’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Entombment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum.
