Mrs. Carmella M. (Geruntino) Gigliotti

Mrs. Carmella M. (Geruntino) Gigliotti, age 70, a summer resident of Cedar Lake and a winter resident of Tamarac, Florida, unexpectedly went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on June 15, 1940, Carmella was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ella (Gilbert) Geruntino. Raised and educated in Utica, she was a graduate of T. R. Proctor High School. On May 6, 1961 she married Louis R. Gigliotti. They loved each other and raised six children during their nearly 50 years of marriage where family life was their passion and devotion. Carmie worked at the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) local as a coordinator of benefits, retiring in 1994. She also worked alongside her husband, Louis, in establishing and operating Gigliotti Studio. Carmie was one who always found the good in others, gave unconditional love, and was fiercely loyal. She blessed others with loving compassion and a great inner strength that was seen in every aspect of her life. Her greatest joy and accomplishment was in her relationships with her children and grandchildren. She shared her love of Cedar Lake, which was her haven of peace and silent beauty, with her children, friends and family. Other enjoyable moments included “Sister’s Tea”, shopping and Sunday dinners. She was a devoted Catholic practicing her faith at St. Malachy Church in Tamarac, where she was a Columbiette. Carmie is survived by her beloved husband, Louis; her adoring children and their spouses, Anthony and Lynn Gigliotti, Christine Spearow, Louis and Meghan Gigliotti, Marianne Gigliotti, Michelle and Kevin Enders, and Michael Gigliotti. She was also a loving and doting grandma to 15 grandchildren. Survivors also include her precious sisters, Mary Teresa Gaule, Elaine Pennachio, Anna Portuondo, Rosalie Geruntino and Jim Reynolds; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Lucy Geruntino, Anthony and Norma Geruntino, Ronald Geruntino, and George and Nancy Geruntino and her brother-in-law Al Chitty. She also leaves her sister-in-law Dianne (Gigliotti) Ragusa who she loved like a sister; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Carmie was blessed with many wonderful friendships throughout her life, with special mention of her lifelong friends, Red and Jeannie Elliott, Joe and Elsie Fiore, Dr. Anthony and Phyllis Palumbo, Fred and Beverly Abounader, and Betty Enders who were all with her family at her passing. She was predeceased by her sister and best friend, Louise Chitty, seven weeks ago; and her brother-in-law, Gary Gaule. The family is grateful to the physicians and nurses of the Critical Care Unit at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center who tended to Carmella with such kindness, comfort, and grace. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Carmella’s Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life which will commence on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass.
