Mrs. Beverly M. (Dowe) DiGirolamo

NEW HARTFORD - Mrs. Beverly M. (Dowe) DiGirolamo, age 81, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on August 13, 1936, Beverly was the daughter of the late Albert H. and Margaret (Harp) Dowe. She was raised and educated in local schools. On June 28, 1991 she married Dominick DiGirolamo with whom she shared 17 years of a beautiful life together. Their relationship knew many friendships, travel, common interests, and warm winters in Florida. Dominick passed away on August 2, 2008. For more than 30 years, Beverly was employed by the General Electric Company and was proud of the fact that she had the opportunity to work at each of the Utica locations. Beverly was fun-loving, with a good sense of humor, and a spirited personality. Family was important to Beverly and she enjoyed family gatherings. She was proud of her nieces and nephews, and she was especially proud of the close relationship she had with her mother and the level of care she was able to provide to her parents. Beverly was athletic and excelled in bowling and golf. She also enjoyed card playing, the casino, travel and music. She was a devout Catholic and enjoyed celebrating Mass at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. Beverly is survived by her sisters, Lila Atkinson, Laurice Gigliotti, and Margaret Costello; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Suellen Dowe, and Richard H. and Cheryl Dowe; her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, her late husband’s daughter, Maria and Giraldo Alicandro of Italy; and her friends, Liz Asselta, Johanna Zongrone, and Betty Coria. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Albert Jr. and Yolanda Dowe; and her in-laws, Louis J. Gigliotti Jr., Donald W. Atkinson, and James Costello Sr. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Masonic Care Community/Wiley Hall who made it possible for Beverly to maintain her dignity and quality of life by way of their compassionate care. Sincere thanks to Dr. Guy Wilcox for his professional care, as well as her nephew, Dr. David Dowe, who was an advocate for her health concerns; Barb Baron, Mary Ann Nicotera, Barbara Harvey, Darcey Park, and Annette (Toni) Eckert from Helping Hands and the entire staff of Wiley Hall who did a commendable job of caring for Beverly. The family honored and commemorated Bev’s life at a private time. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Beverly’s Memorial Mass of Resurrection which will be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Salerno on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Inurnment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
