Beatrice Rose (Locascio) Yacco

Mrs. Beatrice Rose (Locascio) Yacco, age 81, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at the Charles T. Sitrin Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on March 21, 1926, Beatrice was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Dianna (Costanza) Locascio. She was raised and educated locally. On August 28, 1948 she married Armando V. Yacco. The couple was blessed with a life filled with happiness, devotion, and unconditional love. Content and pleased to take care of her family and her home, Bea loved to cater to the needs of her loved ones and was proud of each of them. Her faith and her family were the focus of her life. A woman of simple means, she had a light-hearted and peaceful demeanor. Her loved ones appreciated her for her generous, selfless, and modest nature. Upon reflection of Bea’s life, she was a natural caregiver; from honoring her parents and siblings, to the nurturing of her marriage, motherhood, and the generations that followed. Endowed with a festive nature, Bea decorated her home for every holiday, and she encouraged her children to establish their own customs and traditions. As a music lover, her home was always surrounded by upbeat lyrics and melodies. Adept at knitting and crocheting, she crafted booties and afghans, and collected knick-knacks, including angels, and salt and pepper shakers. During her leisure time she enjoyed reading mysteries and romantic novels. She was a talented baker and cook and took pleasure in taking a ride, stopping for ice cream, and dining out. In earlier years, Bea had fond memories of her annual trips to the Auriesville Shrine and her devoted support of the St. Rosalia Chapel. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church. Bea is survived by Armand, her devoted husband of 58 years; her daughters and sons-in-law, Diana M. and Thomas Pierce of Utica, Denise A. Buczek of Utica, and Deborah A. and William Loomis of Sauquoit; her son and daughter-in-law, Armando V., Jr. and Lisa Yacco of Deerfield; her grandchildren, William, Melanie, Stephen and Gina, Amanda, Keith, Heather and Scott Hajdasz; Melissa and Sergio Vallejo, Noelle Buczek; Vincent, and Michael Yacco; and Jason, and Justin Loomis; and her 7 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters and brother-in-law, Theresa “Terri” Hahn, Mary Carrock, and Angela and John Piazza, all of Utica; her brother, Anthony Locascio of NV, her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Richard Hensel, Mary A. Diana, Raymond Yacco, and Antoinette Yacco. She also leaves her longtime and loyal friends, Minnie LaPaglia, and Anna Gerace. She was predeceased by her brothers, Peter Locascio, Vincent Sgroi, and Salvatore Sgroi; her sisters, Anna Locascio, Josephine Locascio, Frances Derminio, and Florence Hensel; and many Yacco in-laws. The family offers sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of the Charles T. Sitrin Healthcare Center 40 West who offered comfort, friendship, and an accommodating manner, especially caregiver Jane Collins; to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. for their comforting honesty during recent day; and to her physicians, Dr. Kevin Mathews, Dr. Lucien D Catania, and Dr. Jianye Teng for their professional attention. Visitation will be held Friday (today) from 4:00 – 7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Beatrice’s funeral service will commence on Saturday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
