Mr. Bart D. Zurek

UTICA – Mr. Bart D. Zurek, age 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, in the comfort and dignity of his daughter Debbie’s home, where he was welcomed into eternal rest by those who went before him. Born in Utica on July 21, 1955, Bart was the son of the late Barney and Mildred (Markowski) Zurek. He was raised in the area and educated in Utica schools. Bart shared a loving and devoted relationship for nearly 40 years with his life partner, Eileen F. Murphy. They were truly the best of friends, and each possessed a deep love for the other. The couple enjoyed many years of creating memories together, especially time spent sitting outside enjoying a beer, dining on seafood, or trying their luck on scratch offs. Bart’s beloved Eileen passed away on February 27, 2013. Bart held various positions throughout his life in different fields and was always known as a hard worker. He was most recently employed at the Neighborhood Center in Environmental Services. He was a kind man with a quiet, shy demeanor, possessing the patience of a saint. His many good qualities were often reflected in his sense of humor, as he was known for giving people nicknames that were always spot-on. Bart enjoyed the tranquility of fishing, which reflected his patience, as well as the artistry of deer hunting. The venison harvested from his several bucks was enjoyed throughout the season. He also loved spending time at Sylvan and Delta Lake beaches, where he found peace relaxing to the sound of the waves and enjoying cookouts. He embraced a simple life and believed in appreciating each moment. He was a devoted fan of rock and roll music and often reminisced about the many years he spent listening to it on 8-track tapes. A man deeply loyal to his family, Bart loved and watched over those who were important to him, always sharing his time and helping to create a home rich in love home. In his own way, Bart was a believer and carried his spirituality quietly within him. Bart is survived by his children and their loves, Michele and Thomas Anderson, Renee Guardado, Robert Adams (the late Yvette Guzman), Debra and Dwayne Morse, Sr., and Kimberly and David May. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved grandchildren, Dwayne Jr., Marquez, Trazell, and Iris Morse; Xavier, and Isabella Ramos, and Thomas Rivera; Travis and Jenna Anderson, Aireanna Anderson and the memory of his grandson, Thomas M. “TJ” Anderson, who preceded him; and Santino and Carmelita Guardado; great-grandchildren, Gabby; Brooklynn, and Bella; siblings and their loves, Chris Zurek McDaniels (the late William McDaniels), Eve Zurek Christi (the late Bob Christi), Melody Giacoma (the late Joseph Giacoma), and Cindy and Michael Boehlert. He held close to his heart the memory of his siblings who preceded him, Ronald “Doc” Zurek, Louis Zurek, Alexander and Ruth Zurek, Barney W. Jr. and Jean Zurek, and Steven Zurek. He also leaves his sisters-in-law, Donna Zurek, and Joanne Zurek; multiple nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; and in-laws, Christine Youngs and Terry, and Kenny and Carla O’Brien. Bart was additionally preceded by his in-laws, Louise O’Brien, and Carl Murphy. Gratitude is extended to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. for the comfort and kindness extended to Bart’s family, but most importantly for the peace they gave him. Bart chose to finish the race of life with dignity. In his own words, as he faced the final chapter of his life, he often said, “How old do I have to be to die?”—a reflection of his acceptance and quiet strength. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Bart’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
