Mrs. Barbara A. (Des Marais) Zammiello

UTICA – Mrs. Barbara A. (Des Marias) Zammiello, age 74, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, with her beloved husband by her side, holding her hand. Born in Utica on September 18, 1950, Barbara was the daughter of the late Francis and Eleanor (Maus) Des Marais. She was a proud graduate of Frankfort/Schuyler Central High School. When Barbara met Kenneth W. Zammiello, she knew he was the one she would share her life with. The two were married on July 26, 1986, beginning a beautiful marriage of over 38 years. Their commitment was “perfect” and one of pure love; anyone who met them could see the deep, soulful connection they shared. They often expressed true-blue sentiments to one another. Barbara was the type of person who never failed to greet people with warmth and affection. Her engaging personality and charming smile lit up whatever room she entered. Everyone around her could feel the deep love she held in her heart. She was an excellent cook, particularly excelling in Italian cuisine. Her sauce was to die for, and her sausage roll would make your mouth water just from smelling it. She loved all animals, and tending to and cultivating her rock gardens. In her down time, she enjoyed taking in “QVC” and “Days of Our Lives.” Barabara was a spiritual person and held a beautiful belief in her God. Barbara is survived by her loving husband Kenneth W.; and her son Philip H. Zammiello. She cherished the memory of her brother and sister-in-law who preceded her, Robert and Carol Des Marias. Her loss is also felt by many nephews; in-laws, Louis L. “Louie” Zammiello (the late Suzanne M. (Woods) Zammiello) and Tammy Zammiello, whom she treasured as a sister; dear friends, Grace Scaparo, and Mickey Majka; and her canine companion, Ellie, whom she adored. She was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Jayne (Hammill) Zammiello; sister-in-law, Randi L. (Zammiello) Giruzzi; and nephew, Ronald K. Giruzzi. The Zammiello family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the ICU at Wynn Hospital, especially acknowledging Brad, for their care and compassion. Barbara’s family will honor her life privately.
